Title: Waco, TX - Sept 17-18, 2016
Post by: Ghostring on September 20, 2016, 05:55:54 PM
Another superb weekend of Appleseed at the marvelous covered CTRP Range in Waco!  :cool2:

Saturday morning dawned bright, early, and a bit warm -- 18 shooters from all around Texas came together to persevere and immerse themselves in the history and marksmanship that makes this nation so great!  We had several families make the journey together, bringing with them a handful of young (and not-so-young!) new shooters.
A challenge? Perhaps, for some.
But more than that an opportunity to teach what isn't taught in schools today -- our American heritage!  ..:..

Saturday's first redcoats showed that 7 of our shooters were effective out to 100 yards, two of them were effective to 200 yards, three hit the shingle, and one lone shooter was able to take out the 300 yard silhouette.  Not bad at all, but there was room for improvement!  &)
This group was extremely attentive, however, and showed dramatic improvement over the course of the day.  Our closing redcoat had two shooters completely clear the silhouettes, with more than half effective past 200 yards, 5 effective to 300 yards, and eight shingles taken out!  A glorious ending to a long, hot day!

Our history was not only well received, it was requested!  We were able to deliver two of the Strikes at lunch on Saturday, then the third Strike and DOM just before we shot our only Saturday AQT.  Somehow the oppressive heat and pressure had minted a Rifleman!  With a breakout score of 223, Richard J. was able to earn his patch on Saturday.  Huzzah!!!  Several others were knocking on the door with scores above 180.  With all scope and hardware adjustments out of the way, we were all looking forward to some mighty fine shootin' Sunday.

Sunday brought us 14 shooters, with fresh muscles, hearts and confidence!  The fire-hose lessons of Saturday still on their minds, we had two shooters completely clear the redcoat target (shingle and all!), with 13 of 14 effective at 100 yards, and 4 out to 400 yards!
We also had a previous Rifleman (Shawn R.) get his first patch at Waco, and another new Rifleman (Josh J.) shot a 222 later in the day!
In addition to these fine marksmen, there were at least three shooters knocking hard, one with a score over 200!
Our day ended close to 3pm, a fine day of marksmanship and fun!

Not only all of that, but Richard J., stepped up to take an Orange Hat and become an IIT!  I hear those hats are all the rage nowadays  ;)

We were lucky to have the help of IITs paul.rome (who is thisclose to wearing a different color hat!) and Doorkicker, with SB Gunner01 and yours truly as instructors.  Scuzzy came along early Saturday to help as well!

And a special double-handful of thanks to the Central Texas Rifle and Pistol Club for hosting another fantastic weekend of Appleseed!

Huzzah!!!

Congrats to all. It sounds like a great opportunity for many.  Richard J, thanks for stepping forward. I believe that you will find that you can learn much as you prepare to teach. I know that I have. Your dedication will be appreciated by many, for years to come. You never know when one that you spend time with might make a tremendous difference at some time in the future.   O0
