Title: AAR New Philly, Ohio 8-27 & 28, 2016
Post by: Corvette on August 29, 2016, 01:13:51 AM
What a great shoot at New Philadelphia, Ohio this past weekend. Saturday morning dawned clear, hot and humid. But we had 21 shooters show up to start a great weekend.  Our shoot was very cosmopolitan.  We had a family group of six from behind "enemy lines".  That would be New York, City.  They brought with them their au pair who was from the Czech republic. We had an IIT from Canada, (thanks for coming Sluggo) and a wide mix of other attendees.

Saturday started with the welcome and the safety brief which was followed by the morning Red Coat.  The results were promising with 8 of 21 competent at 100, 5 of 21 at 200, and 3 who joined Daniel Morgan.

Instructions started with the related shooting drills. Everyone progressed through the steady hold factors, the six steps and NPOA working hard. Before we knew it, it was lunch time and Tusco Rifle Range in New Philedelphia, Ohio rolled out a wonderful lunch for the shooters.  The first strike was presented and we were back on the line to work on sight adjustments.

The steady hold factors for seated were presented followed by the second strike.  Off-hand instructions were presented and related drills shot. The Saturday Red Coat was shot with improvement seen across the board.  We had 13 of 20 competent at 100, 9 of 20 at 20 and a whopping 7 shooters joined Daniel Morgan.  We had one shooter who cleared the Red Coat.

The day came to a close with the Third Strike and the Saturday call to action.

Sunday dawned just like Saturday.  After a review of the safety brief, the steady hold factors, the six steps and NPOA, we moved to the line to card the sights.  This was followed by the introduction of the AQT.  A practice AQT was shot followed by several live AQTs.  At the lunch break, we presented the KD lecture and returned to the line.

Two more AQTs were shot and we made our only Rifleman of the weekend.  Congratulations Frank, who shot a 215 on the last AQT of the day. The final Red Coat was shot with 13 of 19 competent at 100, 8 of 19 at 200 and 3 of 19 at 300.

The day finished with shooters working on some full distance work at 200 and 300 yards.  Overall, we had a great shoot. My thanks to Tusco Rifle Range in New Philedelphia, OH, Wheeler, Charley, little buddy, Yankee, Dom, Chippendale, and Sluggo for helping with the shoot.  We had one great event.

You guys run a fantastic event. The line was run expertly and the presentations were absolutely top shelf. Thank you so much for allowing me to participate. (Brianne loved it too)

Another warm weekend, but what a wonderful event it was! Glad to see Texas T again too! Everyone (well, except me) stayed very hydrated, concentration on range commands was good. A lot of great teachable attitudes too! Alan, Angie, Phil, Aaron, come out again, and you'll make rifleman for sure (be sure to clean those rifles)!
Long shirts are a must, because that brass is hot!

Almost forgot- I thought the safety chant proved to be quite effective!
