It was hot. It was Virginia in the summertime hot. It was humid. Did I mention it was HOT? Morning temps started around 85 and by afternoon it was well up in the 90s. Had it not been for the shelter on the range and occasional breeze it would have been brutal from start to finish. It might have even been hot. I am assured by my meteorological friends that we seldom see temps over 100 BECAUSE of the humidity in the soil. 3 ice chests saw a lot of traffic for water and sports drinks. About 100 pounds of ice was sacrificed in pursuit of a cold drink. 16 intrepid shooters came out and faced the heat seeking the Rifleman patch. 5 of those were successful! Congrats to Derek, Craig and our high score for the weekend, Dominic! Huzzah, Huzzah, Huzzah Congrats as well to a couple of "repeat offenders", James and Don. Don, how does it feel to be out shot by your son? Congrats to Kaitlin our new youth shooter on a job well done! That patch is out there for you soon. It was a pleasure to hear the boomers of our center fire guys up on the left of the line (M1A SOCOMs are loud!). Our instructor crew included JL and Dangerous Cook on Saturday and oddsreven, FiremanBob, Monkey, MissusMonkey, MiniMonkey and Rockhead throughout the weekend. Thanks as always to our range host, JMDavis. Missus Monkey launched our First Strike, I presented the Second, FiremanBob covered the Third and Dangerous Old Men was presented by Rockhead. Monkey Ran our show (SBIT3 to SB, HUZZAH!) and covered KD. "Instructor Development Time" included an M1 Carbine and a Saiga Sporter.

This was an absolutely fantastic shoot!
For reference, temperatures from Weather.com were 97 on Saturday and 96 on Sunday. When cross referenced with the Heat Index charts, we were at 128 and 121!
Proudest moment of the event: ZERO drops due to weather - 16 instances of Riflemen persistence!!!
Had a fantastic time with all attendees. While many had attended AS events previously, several new students showed significant improvement over the course of the weekend.
Honorable mention goes out to Jonathan, Joe and Roger: Your scores got progressively better as the days wore on. You'll earn that Rifleman patch soon enough - you've already shown you have the determination and grit that comes with the title. On average, it takes between 2 and 3 AS events to earn your Rifleman patch, and y'all are well on your way!
