Title: Newark Ohio July 23 & 24, 2016

What a great Appleseed. In spite of brutal weather, (90+temps/90+humidity) we had one heck of a great Appleseed at Dillon Sportsman Center near Newark, Ohio. Saturday opened with 17 shooters on the line.  It was very much a family affair.  We had a number of family groups-- fathers, sons, cousins, and daughters.

The shoot started with the standard welcome, safety brief and a brief setting of the stage for the events on April 19, 1775.  We then opened the weekend with the Saturday morning Red Coat.  Based on the results of this Red Coat, we had some work to do.  We had less than half of our shooters competent at 100 yards and not much beyond that.   This was ok as all shooters brought a teachable attitude and a large amount of motivation to get better.

Steady hold factors in prone were presented, followed by the six steps, and NPOA. Before we knew it, it was lunch time and we retired to the training room at Dillon which was much cooler than the weather outside where we presented the first strike.

After lunch, we continued to work on our skills which included seated steady hold, the second strike was presented during the afternoon break and off-hand steady hold factors were presented after the break.  The day came to a close with a practice AQT and the Saturday afternoon Red Coat.  Results were promising.  We had 11 of 18 competent at 100, 5 at 200, 3 at 300, and 2 at 400.  This was a MAJOR improvement over the Saturday morning Red Coat.

The Third Strike was presented and Saturday came to a close.

Sunday open just like Saturday, hot, humid and sunny.  After a review of the safety rules, the steady hold factors and the six steps, we moved to the Sunday morning Red Coat.  Results were promising and we moved to carding the sights and other NPOA drills. This was followed by our first AQT's of the day.  We made our first Rifleman of the weekend.  Chewie posted a 211 on his first AQT and I was pleased to present him his patch at lunch.

KD was presented at lunch and we were back on the line for more AQT's.  Everyone fought the weather and worked hard through the afternoon.  Leanne knocked on the door but some equipment problems held her just short of the magic 210.

After a team challenge, we shot the final Red Coat and the weekend came to a close.

My thanks to all the instructors that helped with this shoot. ChevyShooter, Chad and TexasT, thank you for all your great work this weekend.  To all the shooters, thank you for battling the elements and working so hard on improving your skills.  It was very special for me to work with everyone at this shoot.

Sounds like a great time. Congratulations to your entire crew and the attendees. Keep up the work and you will all soon have the patch.

I was out on Sunday but could only take it for a couple hours, it was HOT.
