Title: Tok, Alaska 25 & 26 June 2016 Farthest North Appleseed, Year 3
Post by: fisherdawg on June 30, 2016, 01:23:56 AM
The morning of Saturday June 25th near Tok, Alaska at latitude 63.33 north did not dawn in any conventional sense.  This is the land of the midnight sun! So the dawn proceeds through a night that never grows dark.

By 9 am though, 9 Appleseed Instructors -- fisherdawg, eagleriver, Taka222, FourFans ,Oldmikey, Maniac, Tutt270, eburnham & 3Gunner assisted by Blue Hats Koda & Julia were ready to instruct 9 shooters in the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship and American Heritage.

Even though the day was briefly interrupted by a torrential thunderstorm in the afternoon, all persisted for an excellent day.  Progress was evident on all groups. History was enthusiastically absorbed by the very welcoming residents of the Last Frontier.
Mickey H. was knocking on the door on the one AQT.
Anna progressed as did siblings Micah, Kaleb & Trey and father Keith too.
For Trey the fundamentals really began to gel with a scote in the 160 range.
Koda worked hard & Julia, already a Rifleman at age 12, sought to re-qualify on a Center Fire AR15.
Glenn worked on learning new habits.
Leeanna show flashes of brilliance that will become true skill with practice.

We adjourned and resumed on a rainy Sunday morn with 5 shooters returning.
After a rapid review of the fundamentals, we began an appropriately paced AQT grind.
Mickey qualified with his bolt action rifle on the first with a 213! And he repeated with a 217 later in the day.
Julia re qualified with a 222.
Glenn added 100 points to his Saturday score
Way to go shooters.
And they learned of the Heritage that has been granted to all Americans.
The wonderful folks at Tok Shooters spoiled the Instructor crew again with a homemade burger & hotdog bbq with all the trimmings and wonderful homemade desserts.
Thank you to John B., Erica, J.B. and the many others who contributed.  We will be back next year.
I'll have photos to post within a day or 2.
For Liberty!!

Wow! What a ratio of students to instructors. Plenty of opportunity for one-on-one work and special attention, when needed. Great report.

Compliments of "Oldmikey":  I like the last one

This shoot was THE definition of persistence,, 5 inches(guess) of rain in 45 minutes late Sat, then a generally wet sucky Sunday morning. No one cried foul.
