Title: Ft. Meade KD Event November 15
Post by: Eroyle on November 15, 2015, 05:15:03 PM
Ft. Meade, MD 9 shooters came out to learn more about Marksmanship shooting Known Distance out to 500 yards.  It was a beautiful cool and crisp Sunday.

We started the morning by reviewing, 6 Steps to Firing a Shoot, Natural Point of Aim, Rifleman Cadence and Rifleman Bubble followed by a review of shooting KD and a refresher on Inches, Minutes and Clicks.   Rifles on the firing line were .223 (Semi and Bolt) and M1 Garands.  Most shooters had their rifles set with a 100 yard zero only minor adjustments were needed.  As we progressed out to 500 yards some shooters adapted very well making the necessary come-ups and documenting those come ups while others begin to have issues with their sights or equipment.  Wind was not a major factor on this day.  Those of you that shoot at Meade know it can be wicked.  We spent extra time at the 500 yard firing line in an attempt to over come some of these sighting issues.  While we did not achieve any KD Rifleman on this day everyone walked away with a greater appreciation for distance shooting.  Many lessons learned on the importance of understanding your equipment, obtaining data and documenting come-ups to perfecting fundamentals.  Issues with fundamentals will be exposed at longer distances.

We finished the day completing 2 AQT's.  At the end of the day additional time was provided at the 100 yard line with all students walking away from the event with good 100 yard zero and data out to 500 yards.  NavyBowHunter worked with some students using the ball and dummy drill while others were able to obtain ranging data on their front sight using the front post-measuring tool.

An incredible amount of preparation work goes into shooting at Ft. Meade.  Thank you to all of the Maryland Instructors who worked to prepare for the event.  Navyirish all this work paid off.  A BIG Thank you goes out to all of the Maryland Instructors who worked the event either on the firing line or the Pits.   Excellent job!

To all the students thank you for a great event!  We hope to see you at another Appleseed event soon and bring a friend, co-worker or family member.  Remember to "Like" us on Facebook - Project Appleseed Maryland.  Thanks once again to Meade Rifle and Pistol Club for hosting the event.  We look forward to building upon our success in 2016.
