Title: New IIT Drop Box for Info & Instructional Aids
Post by: 308LIBERTY on October 22, 2015, 09:33:45 PM
Yes, some of this is available on TIPS. No, this is not official, at least not all of it.

Recently one of our awesome new IITs, who is more organized than most of us (inSANEmom), inspired me to upload this welcome packet online. I've been working on it as a welcome packet for new IITs, a quick reference to download what you need, when you need it. I also have a handful of 8 GB flash drives that StoneKnives gave me I can use to hand out and I am putting a handful of these documents in a hard-copy format to place directly in the hands of new IITs. If you come across those free flash drives they hand out at conventions, or nearly free you can find on clearance after school starts, feel free to get this stuff on there and put in in the hands of a new IIT. It has the Progress Checks, The Manual, Instructional and Visual Aids, maps, some nifty handouts and the Battle Road booklet I've been trying to put in the hands of as many new instructors as possible. Yes, I probably missed something and it's a work in progress. Yes, feel free to make suggestions, so long as this thing doesn't become a quagmire.

This is an experiment, so please let me know if something doesn't work:

Battle Road Booklet - An Hour by Hour Account of April 19. (It's currently formatted to print a 5.5 x 8.5 folded booklet. Print side 1. Stick the paper back in the printer. Print Side 2. Print the cover then fold it in half)

The neat thing about this is it seems you can access this stuff, wherever you are, from any computer or even mobile devices, if you have better eyes than I do. Some of the maps are actual historical documents I downloaded through the National Archives.

Love all the cheat sheets and aids you provide. Oh, and the flyers. Love the flyers, too! (Hint: 2016 is fast approaching.  ;)
Keep up the great job!

Great stuff Three'oEight!

I appreciate the help this past weekend, and the link to your cache of accumulated knowledge & cheat sheets. The AQT Checklist is nothing short of genius.

RamboGranny has a neat little book she uses for teaching and asked me to re-create some visual aids for it. I've uploaded 6 new files, for those interested. Go to the first post in this thread for even more links to instructional materials. Here's the updated link to visual aids:

Wow. Just wow! And thanks. Love where your project is going & the organization rocks. Will definitely be replacing my crude hand drawings with these on IMC chart! You have done a great service for instructors & students. Huzzzzzahhhhhhhhh!
Will need more time to go thru all of it, but it is love at first sight.

What would really be awesome is for some enterprising print shop to make these available to the instructor corps at a reasonable cost. Printed on durable plastic or on heavy card stock in a heavy lamination for rough usage in the rain would be nice. If it is kept to a letter sized print, having them punched to fit into a 3-ring binder would be great. Printing them even bigger than letter size would be wonderful for larger classes.  Anyone own or know of a place that could do work like this? Anyone want to look into a big group order? I had several pages of these printed out at Staples and laminated. Looks great and very professional but pricey; perhaps a big order might reduce the costs somewhat? How about a boxed set for Christmas Appleseed gifts? Having the whole set made part of the instructor gear would do more to assure uniform and consistent teaching than a new logo shirt, IMHO.

At some locations, FedEx Office will have a large format B&W printer. It's much cheaper than normal large format printing. (I think my last one was in the range of 2-3 bucks) It's not photo quality printing, but you don't need it for basic charts. I haven't shopped around for laminating, but Michaels often has 50 percent off sales on their poster frames and I use those. That way if my chart needs a fix or an update (always a work in progress), I can just reprint it and put it back in the poster frame.
