Title: Boaz, KY, October 10-11, 2015
Post by: dond on October 13, 2015, 09:30:37 PM
Well this was a highly unusual AS, but a great one nevertheless. Only one person was preregistered and there were no walk ons. And the one who had signed up injured herself the day before and was unable to attend Saturday. Normally I would have canceled the shoot earlier but this was one of my home ranges so the distance was not great, and I knew this shooter had traveled a long distance a few weeks previously to attend one of my events. And she would be traveling a long distance again to attend this one. There was no way it was going to be canceled. Since we were only able to work on Sunday, and she had attended a previous AS and shown great promise, the typical AS regimen was abandoned and we concentrated simply on making a new Rifleman in the most expeditious manner. Of course safety was maintained. And of course the goal was achieved. She shot a 220 and in addition we went to 100 yards with the 22. After 5 sighter shots, 10 additional ones were taken. Three were called shots barely missing the bulls eye and the remaining 7 were all in the black. A picture of the two of us and her targets appeared on another thread today and I hope she will enter them below also.

Furthermore, she accepted an OH and her serious and dedicated attitude foretell that she will be a terrific addition to the KY Appleseed endeavor.   ^:)^

Congratulations Sheep Dog Addie. And welcome to Appleseed.

Quality has a quantity of its very own!   Thanks, dond, for making this Appleseed still happen, despite the low student turn-out!

Looked at another way, 100% conversion to scoring Rifleman was achieved.  This is noteworthy in and of itself!  If only every shoot were this successful!

Thanks go to LesMoore, too for signing up to instruct on Saturday!

Congrats, Sheep Dog Addie!  Welcome to Project Appleseed!  Thanks for stepping up!

Addie, Congratulations and well done.  I enjoyed meeting you at Knob Creek.  I am happy to hear of your receiving the Rifleman's patch and accepting the Orange Hat.  Look forward to seeing you on the range again.

I cannot even begin to express how honored I was that Don, a gifted master marksman, and his wife came to instruct just me.  As bad as I wanted to to get my Rifleman patch before the end of the year, I would have totally understood if Don had cancelled, especially with my inability to attend Saturday.  His dedication to the mission of Appleseed and to the new generation of patriots is truly inspiring!

I am proud to serve my country through service to Appleseed.  Don and I have quite a bit in common.  He is a retired college physics professor and I have spent my career, thus far, teaching high school and middle school science and agriculture. I hope to use my skills and experience as a middle school and high school teacher to follow in Don's footsteps and along side my fellow instructors to help rebuild our nation of riflemen and patriots.

Thank you, Don and all the Knob Creek instructors who helped me achieve rifleman and inspired me to accept the OH!

Congratulations on becoming a Rifleman Sheep Dog, and thank you for joining us in our mission. DonD is extraordinary and there's no one better to have as a teacher and mentor. I look forward to great things from you!
