Title: Wilmore, KY April 18-19
Post by: Ramblin' Wreck on April 20, 2015, 01:01:09 AM
Patriots' Day found the ole Wreck and three compatriots, Living Hand, Tellico and Bowditch, temporarily relocating north to the Blue Grass state.

The event was hosted at the beautiful Blue Grass Sportsman's League site in Wilmore, KY.

This is an absolutely outstanding venue in a beautiful state. We were made welcome by the range manager Chuck Hughes, who made sure we had everything we needed for the weekend. Thanks, Chuck!

Even with all the rain we've had, NO MUD!! Huzzah!

Pre-regs showed a nearly sold out event and sure enough we began Saturday morning with 19 eager patriots intent on honing their marksmanship skills and learning some history of our country. Many of our shooters were previous shooters who speak very highly of SB Unbridled Liberty who had run this event for the last couple of years.

After an excellent First Strike by Living Hand we tallied the first red coat to give everyone an idea of how steep the hill to Rifleman would be.

Then we got to work on the basics. At noon the old Shoot Boss delivered the 2nd Strike and hopefully answered the question of who fired the first shot based on the results at the north bridge. At the afternoon break Bowditch accepted the challenge of telling his first history block and delivered the 3rd strike.  The results of the red coat on Saturday afternoon proved to the group how much progress they'd made. After having no 300 or 400 yard shooters in the morning we had several by the afternoon including one who cleaned the target. Huzzah, Tim!

The weather turned a little wet on Sunday but being under the covered line at BGSL meant only the targets got soggy.

At noon we told some Dangerous Old Men stories, taught KD and gave out the special patches for shooters and the legendary red/blue rockers reserved for instructors only.

The memorial volley was, as always, the highlight of a Pat's Day weekend. It was a big hit with the shooters. The knowledge that over 3500 fellow Appleseeders were firing at the same time added to the solemnity of the event.

At the end of the day, young Bowditch delivered a very respectable presentation of Patrick Henry's "Give me Liberty" speech.  The point was made that he, age 15, and the other young people there are the future, our posterity, and we owe them a debt to insure they are able to enjoy the freedom and liberty given to us by The Creator.

Thanks to several of our brothers from Kentucky Oath Keepers who joined us for the event. We hope to see y'all again soon. Overall marksmanship was improved and the flames of liberty were fanned. There is no better way to spend a weekend than with a bunch of liberty-minded patriots at an Appleseed event.

Without a heritage, every generation starts over. Do you know what yours is?

Hope to see all of you on the Appleseed trail again soon.
