Alaska, the last frontier.... The Great State.....The land of the midnight sun....
Here we go...
We have an offer to have our first Appleseed in Alaska.
Thank you, new member as yet unnamed...
We have access to a new (OK it isn't even built yet) Samuel Whittemore Memorial Range in beautiful Hyder AK.
Ah yes, shootin' Alaskan style, what could be better? More places to do so.
Look forward to hearin' from all you sourdoughs.

Alaska!!! Ok, I am already checking on who I can fly on to get up there! ;D
I can promise you this, my schedule is conveniently full for the winter months! :o
Summer schedule? Wow, it just opened up!
Thanks Alaska for coming on board!
DW
Heck I'd even do it in winter, long as it isn't up at Tin City.
You can go ahead and pencil me in for this one.
I might have to work on a fishing boat for a few months to pay for the trip, but I heard somewhere that working a winter shoot in Alaska is guaranteed to get you "on the list" at the first Hawaii shoot.
Not that it's the only reason to go, but do you really wanna chance not being on the Instructor list for the first Hawaii shoot?
QuoteI might have to work on a fishing boat for a few months to pay for the trip,
Ha ha ha It just so happens that our host is a fishin' boat captain/owner ;D ;D

Oh boy .....wish I had a slot on that fish boat..lol work for a shot at a new AS ??? where is the port of call? 2016 is going to be a wonderful year...
I'm ready to go. Just let me know when. That is gonna be awesome.
We need one of these to be up in the SouthCentral area. Hyder is nice, but as hard($$) to get to as Seattle from most of AK.
AKBarrat, all we need is a place. If you can suggest a range or an individual with private land and a good back stop we can get right to work on settin' up a shoot. PM me with any info or insight and we'll get right on it.

Alaska's probably like Texas. Just no useable land to be found anywhere. ;)
Central location OK

Hi all,
I am new to the forum. I live up near Fairbanks. I have to say that the Fairbanks 300 yard Range is a really nice range. It is open to the Public. Maintained weekly and easy to get too.
I think Fairbanks would be a great place. Large city, central location , and right in my back yard.
24 hour daylight=24 hours of shooting, right?
Illinois has it's 3-day Appleseed's
Alaska can have it's 48hour Appleseeds.
You guys will need to check to see if the public range would be willing to set aside a range exclusively for AS use for the weekend - many places won't or can't do it...
We need a Line Boss, two RSO's, a chopper and a Shoot Boss with a .460 nitro double standing by the donut table in case of bearus giganticus interuptingus. &)
I'll take any of those jobs. Put me in coach! Hawaii is for golfers.
What is the full nameof the range and could you get me contact info?

Me too. Alaska?...in a heartbeat, in a heartbeat.
You CANNOT set up a shoot is Alaska without inviting the Governor. She could use her new rifle-- http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2009/05/07/the-alaskan-hunter-sarah-palins-custom-50-ar-15/ --Does the 30 cal rule work backward from 50 cal?
I was just looking at the Birchwood Shooting Park in Chugiak, AK outside of Anchorage. Looks like an outstanding facility. Anyone live near or ever been there?
Anyone considered asking this (https://www.frontsight.com/alaska/travel_ak.asp) place?
The Public Range outside of Fairbanks Was a Great place to go when I was up that way 1980 - 1984 at FT Wainwright AK outside of Fairbanks.. If its the same as then, or better Appleseed will have a great time there. A very nice Covered area was there then and folks were there at all times of the endless days during the summer. Just watch out for the state bird. Pappy O0 O0
I must admit..Alaska sounds pretty good to me. It's my favorite state that I've never been to ;) lol!! Ok..that and Colorado.
I'm definitely gonna have to tell hubby when he gets home. I'm sure he would love the idea of that too. Oh...and the potential of Hawaii as well (if rumor is true)...I know he couldn't pass it up then, since we used to live there. He would definitley wanna help with that one as well.
OK, I have a new lead on a shoot in Alaska in the Juneau area. Let's make this official: At 4:47 PM PST on July 12, 2009, I claim Shoot Boss for this one if it does end up getting scheduled through this contact. ;)

She has been invited to Appleseeds before. Maybe she could find more time now. Anyone from Alaska who could extend the offer?
..KDan.., I will go with you to Alaska any time in a seconds notice......I just can not guarantee I would return..............
...................God, the last American Frontier.......................JW...................
J dub... let's go - after mud season of course. Fred pays the gas, we bring the rifles... who's got the range?
Let's go AK!
Hold the door... do you even need a proper range in Alaska? I got portable t-frames and sooo many targets (omg!)... staple gun... let's just go. Sarah Palin or not!
You, however my loyal friend, must provide the freeze dried. I'm sick of hot dogs and wendy's - some chili mac with beef should do the trick.
is there anybody out there?
modified to say - I GOT T-SHIRTS FOR EVERYBODY IN THE STATE SITTING IN MY BASEMENT!!!
Alaska!!!
Here are two e-mails that came in to info@appleseed.com (PM Me if you want the personal contact info from these two e-mails)
Who is going to pick up this bucket and get an Appleseed scheduled in Alaska?
Hello,
My name is ####### and I would like some information on holding an Appleseed event here in Alaska. Please send the material to this e-mail address or you can mail it to my address :

Anchorage, Alaska 99501
Thank you

AND HERE IS ANOTHER ONE :o :o
To Whom It May Concern,
May I request that an Appleseed Shoot be scheduled for Alaska? It's difficult for me to travel outside Alaska of late, and I'm sure that people up here would like to have an event scheduled. This would also provide some good fishing oppotunities for any instructors who might like to venture up here.
A good location for the shoot might be:
http://www.brspclub.com/
It is located approximately 20-30 minutes outside of Anchorage, and is centrally located for many people to attend. I hope this email finds you well. Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I look forward to attending...
~~:)
When is mosquito season? May/June?
We have great timing to get a July/August event up there, if we act NOW. My contacts fell through from last year. Someone needs to snatch this one up.
I'll volunteer to work this one if you need staff, or leave it for other instructors.
I spent 3 months in and around Anchorage back in 2004 June-August. When I got up there the mosquitos wern't too bad but got worse as the month wore on. It was very dependent too on how wet it had been and if we had a breeze or not. June through Oct. were mentioned to be the rainy months by the locals. I know July got pretty hot with days in the upper 80s and some 90s. This sounds like a great opportunity. O0
Go team here.
Check above posts. Check history. Let's go!

When is mosquito season? May/June?
When I was there in 86-89 May thru Sept was the time frame for the states bird.. I remember them being big enough to de-bone and fry **)
I'm game :)
... and United just announced a fare sale to Anchorage! O0 $370 rt from DEN .. granted you have to purchase by June 7th.

That's what I expected. The Birchwood range is the one I think will be the best bet. Holding the event in Juneau will eliminate the majority of the Alaskans - it would probably be cheaper for us to attend an event in the lower 48. If the sight is near (within an hours drive of) Anchorage there will probably be more interest - half the population of the state is in Anchortown. The Birchwood range is between Anchorage and Wasilla, and a quick drive from either. May-June would probably strike a good balance between weather and summer fever - the range(s) would be able to provide better guidance on this end.

OK, just booked our first Alaska Appleseed. It will be at the Birchwood Recreation & Shooting Park in Chugiak, AK. It will be held on July 30-31, 2011. There is a good chance for a Military Appleseed for the Thursday and Friday before. I will keep you posted.
Fantastic! Great Job...O0
Wow, I love this state.... the opening pictures on the range's website (http://www.brspclub.com/) is big autos and its right next door (http://maps.google.com/maps?oe=UTF-8&ie=UTF8&q=Birchwood+Recreation+%26+Shooting+Park+PO+Box+670650+Chugiak,+AK+99567&fb=1&gl=us&hq=Birchwood+Recreation+%26+Shooting+Park+PO+Box+670650&hnear=Chugiak,+AK+99567&hl=en&view=map&f=d&daddr=20269+Birchwood+Spur+Road,+Chugiak,+AK+99567&geocode=CfzN0xE5Sy3pFSU5qQMd57cW9yFKDOhvs4bzRA&ll=61.420481,-149.500237&spn=0.011764,0.052314&t=h&z=15) to the airport... take that TSA...
Cool.

Thanx SS!
The good folks at the Birchwood Recreation & Shooting Park have given us the range for free for the Thursday and Friday before the weekend Appleseed for a free Appleseed for Military! We are currently looking for someone that has contact with the bases in the Chugiak, AK area to help get the word out and help us work out the details for this special effort. So now it is official! A free Appleseed for the Military on July 28-29, 2011 at the BRSP!
Hello: My name is Josh and I'm proud to be LBOTG for this event. Don't hesitate to contact me to answer questions of help in any way I can- Looking forward to meeting some of you!

Hello Alaska. I am an Appleseeder in Ohio (but still trying for that Rifleman's patch). I follow a number of shooting blogs, one of which is the Arctic Patriot. This week the writer of the blog did an essay on John Parker. Having read it twice (weeping by the end both times) I couldn't help but think this guy is Appleseed material. Here is the link to his entry on John Parker

Followup with this guy if you think its appropriate. He seems to be "... a man who knows well what he is about."
Corvette, Ohio Appleseeder
I'll check it out and try to reach him! Though I'll catch crap from my wife who's been on my case for selling Appleseed to the "believers" rather than fence-sitters and others.

Fixed the link, the dot on the end broke my browser...
Great news for our upcoming Chugiak, AK Appleseed. We sold out! But I have even better news. The range has allowed us a second rifle range that will hold an additional 20 spots! So keep up the great promotions and let's see if we can sell out the second range!
Congratulations, Alaska, on selling out your first Appleseed.
The Old Guide from Maine
Almost three years in the making. If you look back through the posts, you'll see that I volunteered two years ago for this.
I can still make the trip if you guys need some help. Bob210 - you were my first Shoot Boss - gave me my Orange Hat! I'll bring the bagels and cream cheese? I guess you'll have salmon...
I look forward to the IAAR about safety issues created by black flies, specially with scoped rifles. !@#)
Congratulations, AK.
GO TEAM!
