Im trying to figure out how to attend this match without spending a lot of money. I want to use a Mossin Nagant for the KD range. What modifications should i take into account should I purchases peeps sights if so what kind. How to hook up a web sling to a mossin? Also theres a muzzle break and pad. Whats the wisdom on these extras or any advice on it at all.
I read something were you guys might need help if someone shows up early if so i may be able to do that

Mosins are great shooters and highly under rated in the world of AR's, 5R's, M1A's, etc.
Get a Finnish M39 (a 91/30) while you still can!
A slip on recoil pad works wonders on the Mosin. Mine is a Limbsaver. It does lengthen the LOP a bit. But takes the recoil bite out considerably.
For those with tough shoulders, I recommend skateboard tape to keep that dang slippery buttplate in place a bit better.
As for a sling on a Mosin. There are many options here.
Cheapest: If you have an original/complete Mosin sling, and want to "loop up", unhook the rear "dog collar", then simply slide the buckle all the way up towards the front "dog collar". This makes a large loop. Simply use the leather "keeper" to make the small loop to put your arm thru.
But first remember, depending on how the sling was attached, you may have to flip the entire sling so the leather "keeper" is at the rear vs. the front.
IOW... in the below pics, the top rifle is ready to loop up. The bottom carbine needs the sling flipped if using the original sling.

Otherwise you can use a hasty with the sling attached to the rear dog. While not a perfect setup, like a GI sling it is decent enough for a Rifleman.
If the dogs are in good shape, you can also just slide the GI sling thru them (they are in essence the front sling swivel) as is, but eventually they will stretch out and weaken.
You can add/drill a set of sling swivel studs so you can use a GI sling. Drill it between the 2 barrel bands as to get a thick part of the wood as the stock is a bit thinner at the front. I then used epoxy on mine. Con: Have to remove cleaning rod to drill thru the CR channel.
My favorite: Fastest and easiest!: You can remove the front "dog collar" and insert a small hose clamp thru the square hole. Then just simply slide the GI sling thru the HC an then attach the GI sling. You can paint the HC to reduce the glare. Like this:

Most expensive: You can buy an ATI stock which includes SS studs, put the rifled action in and you a great set up for $80 FRN's or so.
Mine is even free floated using a a dremmel tool, but that is not really necessary.
Mine is an awesome rig set up this way and I even gave it a "rattle can" cammo job. I will bring to to the event.
Personally, I like the 91/30's rear sights that goes to 2000 or M38/44's that go to 1000. For a Rifleman, the front sight is plenty precise for rifle work. We nail the 1125 yard White Buffalo at the NRAWC with boring regularity with our Mosins. All ammo too!
I don't know who makes aftermarket peep sights.
As for a scope mount, I have used the S&K mount. Simply drift out the rear sight ladder roll pin and install. Then you have a scout set up and thus you will need a scout style scope with very long eye relief. Great for your M38/M44 and especially the M91/30-the Rifleman's Mosin IMHO. I just saw that Midway USA makes a special Leatherwood scout scope with a BDC to 600 yards based on a 308 trajectory. This should work well enough for the 30-06 and 7.62x51 on 4MOA size targets. For an AQT killer this should be a superb set up. One of our instructors just got one and I hope to try it out soon!
If using lacquer coated surplus ammo, have a 50 cal nylon brush bent at 90 degrees. Every so often it is nice to scrub out the lacquer in the chamber with solvent as to not have to bruise your hand by beating the bolt up during long strings of fire. As you know, modern ammo (brass cased reloadable) works flawlessly and is more accurate but costs more. But worth it for an event like this.

There are whole forums dedicated to these rifles, but this thread should get you good enough for FD Rifleman.
I would avoid do-dads like muzzle brakes, but that is just MHO.

Man thanks for all the info, IM going to use the hose clamps and a harbor freight brush as a the cleaning method on the breach,
