Title: Lexington, KY AAR, Jan. 12-13, 2013
Post by: Unbridled Liberty on January 11, 2013, 08:44:03 PM
On a mild but rainy Saturday in Lexington, 15 AMERICANS turned out for the first Kentucky Appleseed shoot of 2013, and the historic first indoor shoot in Kentucky, to learn about their heritage and rifle marksmanship.  We then had 12 shooters turn out on Sunday for a second helping of Appleseed.  The majority of shooters were attending their first shoot, and we hope they return and bring many friends with them.

Many thanks to Bud's Gun Shop / The Gun Warehouse and Range for slashing their normal range fee so that our shooters could use their climate controlled and DRY facility!

Special mention goes to Steve, who shot a Rifleman score of 212 on his second AQT!  Congrats Steve, and I hope to see you apply what you learned at a KD shoot this year!  Ritchie came very close to Rifleman.  I think someone else broke 200 too.  Also, I want to thank parents Lori and Todd, as well as friend Larry for bringing your youngsters, and therefore "taking good care of the children".  Also thanks to Everett for coming all the way from Tennessee to shoot with us!

Oh, I also wanted to mention young Mason.  I have never seen anybody, young or old, work a single shot bolt that fast.  If I remember correctly, Mason got off 7 out of 10 rounds in stage 2.  His hand was a blur on that bolt, and he loaded from a wood block "magazine" with holes drilled in it for the rounds.  Amazing.

Thanks to brdholman, Runnfree, Big Gear, Barbie and MOA Constrictor for helping make this challenging shoot go as smoothly as it did.  It is an honor to work with each of you.

When I pulled in my driveway on Sunday I realized that, though I explained the "sight calibration drill" during the KD instruction in the classroom, I forgot to implement said drill when we returned to the range.  This once again proves the phenomenon that an Appleseeder's memory is only effective for 24 meters, and illustrates why you need to WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN!  My apologies to everyone for the oversight.  Please come to another event, bring friends and remind me to do the drill, and get your rifle-mounted "range finders" calibrated.

This was a great shoot with shooters and instructors coming from at least three states. Thank you all for investing your time with Appleseed.
A big thanks to Bud's for the support and the great range they allowed us to use. They have a very nice facility and I hope they will consider hosting another event.

It was a pleasure working with you folks, even if we do instruct the TENNESSEE way.  I too would like to thank Bud's and the staff for a great location and support.  Very impress with the young folks coming out and having the willingness to learn, thanks parents for doing your jobs.

Unfortunately I had to work Saturday, so I had to wait until Sunday to come down and help instruct.

As always, it was a great and successful weekend.  Everyone soaked up everything that was being taught, and it showed with improvement throughout the day.  Congrats to Steve for his riflemans score.  Alex and Richie, you guys are "knocking on the door" with your scores of 202.  Everyone else, you showed marked improvement.  Keep at it, don't get frustrated, and you will be happy with the outcome.

I encourage everyone to come back to another Appleseed event... don't be a stranger!  Hey, while you're at it, bring a couple friends!  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone out on the line again, both students and instructors.  Like every other AS event, I couldn't have met a nicer group of folks.
