Title: Founding Fathers Project - new iPad app
Post by: Bullet on January 08, 2013, 10:28:46 PM
Hi folks,

There's a new iPad app that looks interesting and I wanted to pass the word along. I don't have an iPad so I can't check it out, but maybe someone who does can download it and report back?

From their facebook page: (https://www.facebook.com/FoundingFathersProject (https://www.facebook.com/FoundingFathersProject))

QuoteThe Founding Fathers Project is being designed by two concerned young citizens who found out about a problem that looks too big to fix, but is also too serious to ignore. The problem is critical. The Founding Fathers Project is a purposeful response to the historical illiteracy evidenced by many of America's present and future leaders.

We are designing an interactive iPad App that will "speak" the language of today's youth. The Founding Fathers Project App will have theme appropriate, intentionally selected, historically factual, edifying visual, and primary source historical content, all produced in the "language" of today's youth.

It looks like the first segment, on Washington, is released as a free beta version.

See more info (and download) at the iTunes app store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/washington/id589596623?ls=1&mt=8 (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/washington/id589596623?ls=1&mt=8)

I downloaded it, and only the first few chapters are available.  The navigation is a little less intuitive than I thought it would be, but the graphics, and interactive features are pretty cool.

The app starts out with you and a friend discovering an entry way to the past and you find yourself being enlisted in Washington's army.

The story of Washington unfolds when he is a Major in 1759 trecking into the Ohio Valley to gain Indian allies.  The last chapter that is available in the app has no text associated with it, but you can 'shoot' the enemy from a window as they pass by on a snowy street below.

I already can't wait until more is released...  O0

Bummer!  I went to go back to the app after posting, and now it won't start.  I even restarted my iPad.  Hope I don't have to install the app, it takes awhile.   :slap:

Seems the app could use a little more work.   :P

Thanks for checking it out. Sounds like a potentially fun and useful learning tool....I bet they'll work out the bugs and maybe put out an update that runs more smoothly.

I hope the house was a little further for the road than the Russel House!
