Title: Full-Distance ranges in your state?
Post by: ItsanSKS on September 12, 2012, 08:57:58 PM
To all Appleseeders:

Trying to pull together the current Appleseed venues that offer distances in excess of 300 yards.  If your state has one, please respond to this thread with the range name*, maximum distance available, and the number of shooters that it can accommodate at one time.
*= Please list the range name as it appears on eventbrite

Thank you for your prompt attention,

-ItsanSKS

Three Forks MT
Steel gongs @ 400, 500, 600, 800, 1,000.
Fireing line could be stretched to 1/4 mile. or 325 shooters.
Due to the undevoloped nature of this range, full distance appleseed shoots are not offered at this time.
This situation could be changed by a berm behind the 25 yard target line to prevent 25 yard shooters from shooting up the longer range targets.
One volenteer who has a truck to haul a target line out there and back.
And another red hat on location.

Since the majority of shooters are women and kids with .22s who could benifit from instruction,
and most the manly men with centerfires are already shooting antelope and elk way out there, long distance shooting is low on the priority list.

Rattlesnakes live there, they do no bother me much, but many shooters are quite concerned about walking through the sage brush to check targets. Keeping the shooters together in a small area lessens chances of a bad encounter with the native buzzworm.

In Summer of 2013 the Great Falls Shooting Sports Complex will have their "Highpower" Pits complete. It will provide 15 lanes of shooting all the way out to 1000 yards! Of course we can shoot closer if needed. lol but the potential will be there.
