Title: Border Raid (North)
Post by: eaglescouter on August 06, 2012, 10:12:10 PM
5 California instructors have completed a border raid into south western Oregon.

The raiding party:

NorCal22Gal
eaglescouter
56Huck
Nero
American Amazon

The venue:

Rolling grasslands above Brookings Oregon where a generous landowner carved a cat trail to the new range and
parking lot, as well as mowed down all the livestock forage to create a very nice Appleseed Range!

The other key players:

Patriot Gal
Tionico
Castle Mountain
Theopolis
Prescot
Ducko
Joni
BackWoodsHome Magazine staff
Massad Ayoob

70+ pre registered participants

The Northern California raiders have reported home safely but Oregon may never be the same.

I planned ahead for the trip, put my good coat into the car since the forcast was damp and 50's (a welcome change
from the weather of the past week at my place where 104F was the norm).

Saturday morning was a surprise, we were above the fog.
So far above the fog that it was blasted hot, and 100% humidity as we set up the range, easy ups and flags.

Later the fog made an occasional visit as it drifted thru the range and looked very much like the acrid black powder
smoke that drifted across Lexington Green.

On Sunday the weather choose to serve up something 'different' and we were blanketed in fog most of the day, with
the morning briefing punctuated by lightning and thunder from the south and west.  And then the wind arrived from
the west.

The participants proved that they knew very much what they were about and many Riflemen patches were earned.
But better than that was the positive attitude demonstrated by the entire group.

It was a BLAST to attend the Backwoods Home/Brookings, OR shot.  The shooters were great and teachable attitudes were present just about everywhere......

As you can see we all had a great time.... :)

At least one of those Rifleman patches went to a fellow Californian, my son and I drove up from Eureka. He had a great time and wanted to know when he could do it again. He is looking forward to the Eureka Appleseed in October. Middle brother and mom may be going, too.

I'll see you there again, then - I'm coming up to shoot boss that one.
