Title: Bellevue INFERNOSEED AAR, 7/7-8/2012
Post by: BeeFree on July 10, 2012, 03:39:39 PM
Well, THAT was an APPLESEED.  Despite tremendous heat (105!  In MI?), we managed to get through everything, including 6 AQTs... because we had motivated shooters who showed great persistence throughout the entire 'Seed.  I think I speak for the entire crew when I say we were quite impressed!  Congrats to Pinkey on her 210! She is now that rarity - a two-hatted 'Seeder. I am so glad we got to soak you  ;D  Thank you E-squared for your timely reminders!  I'm looking forward to shooting again with Ethan, Andy, Sean, Kevin and Rikka - you guys all did great despite the inferno, and using equipment not your own and not sized to you.  It was good to see Copperhead on the line again, and I hope we see Toby and Jeremy back, with Garands from a fresh stop at Camp Perry... because any excuse for a road trip there is a good one.  Nikki, there's a LadySeed at Lapeer next month, it would be sweet if you earned your Rifleman patch there... just sayin' you could do it first... lol!

Congrats to DiamondSharpShooterSS and 3.Dogs finishing their PC2s.  Jonesy, you are next! I would be remiss if I didn't mention that BillWinkle, Rascal21, and DSS requalified for the year, earning InfernoSeed patches in the process.  And the SCAR was, to quote Ethan, "Awesome!" - Thanks to Bill  for letting us all try it out.  My favorite part was Graywolf telling us about Samuel "Chuck Norris" Whittemore... it doesn't get any better than that! :~

This had to be one of the most enjoyable seeds for me to date! Yea, it was hotter than heck out on that line, but to see the persistence of our students made it all worth it!

Congrats to Pinkey, so happy you waited for Bellevue!
Andy, you make sure that you come back in September, those groups were looking awesome at the end of Sunday!
Sean, you held in there through Saturday, great job, even with the heat and the sweat, the groups were improving.
Nikki, get that stock squared away, and you will be a rifleman in no time!
Jeremy, groups getting better and better every time. I LOVE the pics of you shooting the PINK rifle!
Toby, every target was improving, keep practicing!
Ethan (JJ) - Tell your dad that you want a SCAR for your birthday :) (sorry Jonesy, i side with him on this one)
Myki (E-squared) you make sure to keep us all in line!

As for the folks who didn't make it back on Sunday, I hope to see you all at future events!

OK...has anyone mentioned it was hot at this shoot??!!??  However, in spite of the heat, riflemen push on!  And push on they did.  What a group of shooters we had.  Even the young ones handled the heat and came to the line each time without complaining.

Congrats to Pinkey for figuring out a way to cool down and get an orange hat at the same time!  Huge thanks to Bill for bringing the SCAR and letting us have a go with it.  I gotta get me one of those!  Like Ethan said, AWESOME!  Andy, keep at it - your groups are getting much better.  You will get there in no time!  Ethan you handled that big gun like a pro.  Dad's going to have to lay out some cash for Christmas this year!  :))  E-Squared, you kept us safe with the reminders on eyes and ears and you shot your best AQT yet.  Way to go!  Nikki and Jeremy I look forward to having you back with us next time and seeing you both shoot rifleman.  Toby, keep at it!  It is like riding a bike - you get rusty but you never forget.

Special thanks to BeeFree for running the shoot and keeping us going.  Hard task in all that heat, but she kept us on schedule and ready for more.

This was a fantastic AS.  Great shooters, great attitudes, great team.  Did I mention it was hot?  ^-^

Another awesome 'seed despite the heat. I wimped out and skipped Saturday's heat, but I'm impressed with those who endured it and pressed on in the rifleman spirit.
I wish I had checked my equipment more thoroughly before Sunday, as I found during Monday's teardown and cleaning that the screw holding the front sight on the 22 was extremely loose as was the screw for the elevation knob on the M1A . I'm afraid I let my Run & Gun team down a bit by not confirming the 25m zero on M1A before using it, as my shots were too low and the black surface around the star made it difficult for my old eyes to pick-out where my shots were hitting.  :slap:
Thanks to 3Dogs, Gray wolf and BeeFree for their help in getting my groups tightened up, especially Bee for her advice after observing my trigger control in the breathing cadence practice.  ~~:)
Congrats to Pinkey in earning her Rifleman's patch and taking an orange hat as well ! ^:)^
One of the highlight's of the weekend was the "Awesome" responses that Andy and Ethan had to shooting Bill's SCAR   :---
As always a great instructor crew made for a great event, many thanks for your sacrifice and example to get off the couch and start getting this "ship" bailed out.  O0

"So this is what 105 degrees feels like...." That was a thought that frequently popped in my head, especially as I thought my brain might have been cooked because my clipboard seemed to want to hide from me at the end of the day Sat. First it ran in hid in BeeFree's car, then it left itself on one of the tables  :slap:

Kudos to the shooters....sweltering sun beating down, hot mats, hot rifles, sweat running into eyes, greasy sun screen, horse flies....and everyone clawed through. Talking to Jeremy afterwards, he and Nikki will be back, hopefully soon. Toby, you are very close...stick with it!

I've got some work to do as well...need to finish my PC3, get some dryfire practice in to requalify (my sole AQT on Sunday didn't quite get there) and check the zero on my M1A....the groups on the last redcoat of the shoot was a bit low.

My son Ethan is still talking about the SCAR....he asked me afterwards....."Dad, are you going to get one?" Someday son.....someday. O0

It was certainly HOT! I don't think I need to say how hot since its alredy been said, but I was proud to see everyone pushed through it and made it through the weekend! We did lose a couple on day one but I can't say that I blame them one bit! lol
E-Squared I loved hearing those three little words all weekend "EYES AND EARS!" You made me smile everytime! I think we'll be seeing an Orange hat on you someday!
Ethan JJ-Trigger Happy, You were awsome to watch! You handeled that SCAR like a pro!
Andy, I'm looking forward to seeing you out there again, you really got it right away, just a little more practice and you"ll have it perfect!
Rascle, & Bee thanks for all the help, I think it might have taken me even longer to reach 210 if you hadn't helped me out with a few pointers.
Jonsey it was great meeting you and I hope to see you back here again.
Thank you to all of the instructors you all did a great job and kept everyone going through the tough heat,.
I know I am forgetting someone but I have a TON of homework to do now, lots of history to catch up on, and pcs to do!
I hope to see ALL of you again soon! Nikki don't forget the Ladyseed in August! I hope to see you there!

Folks, saying that I am impressed just doesn't quite cut it.  Everyone came to the event "teachable" and that attitude only grew as the weekend continued.  You ALL can be proud.

Since my main focus was as the Line Boss I wasn't able to key in on specific shooters but I do want to mention that the "safety monkey" never reared his ugly head.  The 4 safety rules and making the rifle safe were adhered to all weekend long.  I can't remember anyone having an issue following the rules.  I honestly expected to be making spot corrections as the heat became more intense but it just didn't happen.  I do want to pick on Andy a little though.  This young man came to us with very little knowledge/experience with firearms and he NEVER needed to be corrected.  GREAT JOB!!

I also want to call out Sean, my son.  I've seen Sean shoot groups with the 10/22 that looked like birdshot from a sawed-off shotgun back when he first started shooting a couple of years ago.  This weekend he was shooting groups that could be covered with a dime; about 2 MOA!! GREAT SHOOTING!!  I'm VERY proud.  Too bad the heat got to you because I'm certain that you were going to shoot a Rifleman score.  Next time...

I do want to thank all the shooters for enduring the intense heat with smiles on faces, I want to thank BeeFree for running a great shoot, and I want to thank all of my fellow instructors for what you do...I'm proud to be a part of this bucket brigade.
