agreed. We should contact and let him know about the Ladyseed events, which would address one of his negative impressions....
And my "we" I guess I mean to say, "I'll shoot him an email and take care of that."
Our Project Appleseed friends in Texas got some nice media coverage. They explained some of the marksmanship instruction as well as the history aspects of the project. Well done!

Gun blogs, I read a few of them. When I found out by reading that one of my favorites was living about an hour away, I tossed out the invitation to come to our next Appleseed. He came and the AAR says it all: http://oldnfo.blogspot.com/2012/03/appleseed-aar.html for Day 2 and : http://oldnfo.blogspot.com/2012/03/appleseed-first-impression.html for day 1.

A KBZK reporter from Bozeman, MT came out for a little while and chatted with Mark Davis and one of our returning participants at the Three Forks, MT shoot this weekend. The story was featured on tonight's newscast. Great job, Mark! It looks like that reporter was having a fun time behind that rifle (she was a first-time shooter). Hopefully she got bit by the Appleseed bug. :)

Good stuff all. Really like the NRA vid. Good job Josh.
The April 19th Shoot in middle TN was one for the books; beyond the normal April 19th extra we were blessed with a RevWar Living History group that came and encamped behind the range. They also had a few demos and re-enacted parts of the strikes while we gave the story. They also had one guy in the garb of the 4th Company of Foot that gave a rather neat demo. They also had a real period Brown Bess.

Claude, TnColonel, our SC wrote up a press release afterwards and the Coffee County Saturday Independent published it. The actual pdfs used to print are attached. We have permission to use and reprint them . The only thing the publisher of the paper asked is that we have a link back to his newspaper if it is posted on the Appleseed Web site. The link is http://tsinews.com.

I attended the Palmerton PA shoot this past weekend and thought I would share my experience.
This was the 1st full Appleseed shoot I have done, with having only shot one Appleseed day on a previous Saturday. After this shoot, I will NEVER SHOOT the same; I WILL ALWAYS shoot better!
I have been shooting and hunting for over 35 years and considered myself a good shot prior, but wow did I have a lot to learn and still a lot to work on. I know this program will benefit many that hunt or shoot, and even those that have never shot but who want to learn.
I brought a future Marine who was new to a rifle - on his 1st time shooting he had no group and after day two his group size was down to 4" or less.
This program is an amazing opportunity for anyone and everyone to learn marksmanship skills and about the founders of our Country at an extremely low or no cost. We had 2 women shooters, one new to a rifle and 4 kids on the range!
Thank you to all those that volunteer to give back to those that fought so hard to create this one and only USA - there is no other place like it and I truly believe there is no other project as great as Project Appleseed.
I plan on attending the July shoot and camping with family and friends. Enjoy and God bless.

There were numerous other families out too. I'd love so see some Orange/and or Blue hats on those guys.

"The only politicians we'll talk about at Appleseed have been dead for 200 years".
Thus spoke the shoot boss at the latest Appleseed clinic I attended. He went on to explain how it wasn't a political event, no one was going to talk about modern politicians, and history was the main topic. History, and the skills of a rifleman.

Anybody hear of National Training Week?
http://www.gunlaws.com/NationalTrainingWeek.htm (http://www.gunlaws.com/NationalTrainingWeek.htm)
National Training Week has been endorsed by:
The Second Amendment Foundation
Gun Owners of America
Second Amendment Sisters
The Firearms Coalition/Hard Corps Report
Americans for Tax Reform
Skip Coryell, founder of the Second Amendment March
The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms
The Appleseed Project
Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership
KeepAndBearArms.com
I don't know which Appleseed this person attended, but this well written piece discusses some items I believe we would like attendees to leave with and perhaps a lack of others we encourage:
The Blind Marksman (http://www.blindmarksman.com/2012/07/)
QuoteProject Appleseed is a volunteer program where trainers teach people about rifle marksmanship and a specialized set of skills. It is taught as a martial art they claim is unique to the United States. Gun ownership and gun skills played a role in the creation of our nation. This is a very well-run organization with good procedures, wonderful volunteers, and a stellar emphasis on safety. You can read more about it as well as the NYT (decent but of course, liberally motivated) write-up.
QuoteI started off trying to apply Kentucky Windage. I had discernible groups at the beginning of the first day and figured out what the difference was. I thought I was doing pretty good at compensating for this, and that was my big mistake. As a scientist and an economist, I want to reduce all the noise in an experiment and analyze the difference that specific actions make. This technique I was using--which I was advised against using, made it more difficult for me to see the impact of the other skills I was trying to employ. I started with noisy groups. I added noisy compensation. I then added additional noisy techniques I was trying to learn. That's not a controlled experiment; that's a disaster.
QuoteAnd most significantly, I didn't have the right attitude. I was playing around and trying to do things my way. I wasn't devoted to winning the game set before me. I could have done much better, and learned more, if I had played along and tried harder to get it right. That was really a failure on my part that I could have done something about. I didn't want to play with my scope because of how annoying it was to get it set up and will be to set up again at distance. It was only the second day, when after giving up and trying to adjust the scope and it didn't work, that I asked for help getting myself sorted out. Not the most effective use of anyone's time.
Quote
And I will do better. I've already signed up for another event next month.

After my Appleseed shoot in Myaka city Fl. on August 25-26th. I reaffirmed my commitment to making America a Nation of riflemen. I being one of millions of students attending Appleseed shoots across this great land of ours. The instruction by Sly223(Rick), Cory, Archy and the shoot bosses name slips my mind for now but, They were very firm in the safety procedures &) and instilling the importance of proper NPOA. ~~:) My problem is patience. Rick was good to coach me in relaxing but I need much more work then the two days we had to train. I want to thank the Myaka team in an OUTSTANDING JOB! KaZaa!

Thanks for the links. Added to the website latest news.
My 13 yr old daughter got her first rifle (10/22) this summer and has been in love with shooting since...
I found out about Appleseed here on RFC and showed her the information... She immediately checked the family calendar and announced it free and asked if I would take her to the event... How could I refuse..
The cost for her was only $5.00 and that included an Appleseed Tshirt.. we purchased an additional shirt and a patch for a whopping $15.00 to help offset the cost of running the event... I would have gladly given that money and not gotten anything to support them... the event was that good...
Before the event I had her shooting her gun with Williams WGOS peep sights at 25 meters off the bench and in the prone and offhand positions... she was on target and pretty well prepared (we thought )
The event ran from 8:30AM to 5PM both days rain or shine... and let me tell you on Saturday and Sunday afternoon we had a horrific rain storm (about 30-45 min) so bad they you could barely here the instructor give his history lesson under the covered shooting range. It sounded like someone pouring buckets of BBs on a tin roof... but all went well despite the rain...
There were 11 shooters present ranging from a little younger than my daughter to probably anout mid 60s... 3 females and the rest men... all very friendly and willing to help each other.
The two instructors Tom and Greg could not have been any better of more caring and intense as to what had to be done and making sure all the shooters tried to rise from cook to Rifleman and still had a lot of fun doing it...
They obviously started off with a safety lesson each morning before guns were allowed on the range...
During the course of instruction the shooters really got to learn the mechanics of their rifles, i.e. quick magazine changes, clearing and safeing the gun, etc... The also learned the basic shooting positions of a rifleman... prone, sitting, kneeling and offhand and how to transition from offhand to each of the other positions as needed.
For instance they might have 2 magazines loaded (one with 2 rounds and the other with 8 rounds) on the ground next to their shooting mat... they would then have to transition from the offhand position to sitting positions and load the 2 round mag and shoot at one target, change mags shoot 3 more rounds at the first target, wiggle into their new natural point of aim and fire the remaining 5 rounds at the second target and do this within 55 seconds...
As one of the instructors said yesterday it is like they were doing 2 days of calisthenics. My daughter came home tired and sore both days and would not quit... in fact she is already making plans to do this again next year...
Only one shooter managed to shoot a Rifleman score and the instructors told us that generally maybe only 10% of the shooters attending manage to do that... My daughter says next year is her time..
The history lessons and stories that went along with the shooting during breaks were fantastic and very interesting. My daughter intends to be a history teacher and the instructor had her teach the lesson on the different Rev War flags that were hanging behind the shooters.... she loved every minute of it...
Would I recommend this to anyone...
MOST DEFINITELY.... I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERYONE... You don't need ot be a history buff, just love shooting... and I don't care how long you have been shooting.. you will learn something.... I did and was just listening to what was going on...
I am disabled and I know I could not get into the positions they teach.. I was told not to worry, even if I needed to shoot from the bench they would accommodate me.
So maybe next time I will show my daughter what the old man can do.....
The below article was in the Miamisburg Sportsmen Club newsletter and was published before we could all get home Sunday night after the shoot. Unfortunately I do not know how to make the picture links work. We talked with the club president who was very supportive of our efforts and Appleseed.

You surround the URL (after getting rid of the <>) with {img} and {/img}, except use square instead of curly brackets.
Fixed it for you:

Here is a really nice article written about the Blackfoot Appleseed on the 15th and 16th of September. Carol Fox is pictured having a wonderful time. She is a twice-over rifle woman. I wish she could be convinced to pick up an orange hat.

Nice article Jen, thanks for the link. :)
I attended my first Appleseed on 15,16 Sept.,2012 at Osage Beach, Missouri. I have been a rifle shooter for 40+ years. I had a great time and scored a 236 with my 10/22 and a 227 with my M1A . My friend Oren scored a 247 with his rimfire and a 234 with a M1A. Longshot was the shootboss and doesn't post AAR's only IAAR"s so here is my Thank You to Junglegeorge :--- and Chris and all the others who helped to make this happen. We also had a Father and Daughter who got their Rifleman Patches on Sunday. This is to let all know that Appleseed is alive and well here in Central Missouri. Find an Event and get involved.Great history refresher and a really fun time. THANKS AGAIN all who had a hand in setting the event up. Thanks also to Jason.. :~

Letter to BHM on Appleseed Shoot: http://www.backwoodshome.com/letters/letters138.html (http://www.backwoodshome.com/letters/letters138.html)
Excerpt:
Quote
Then Saturday and Sunday the Appleseed. What a thrill to spend the weekend on a grassy hillside with about seventy-five patriotic Americans! Massad was right when he wrote that the shooting was good but the history was the best part. With incredible passion, the RWVA members told the stories of the real people -- who made astounding sacrifices -- to free us from British oppression. Those stories should be mandatory curriculum in our schools.
As for the shooting, there was so much to learn. While I am no expert, I kind of figured I knew what I was doing. Not so at all. My wife actually picked things up faster than I did -- so much so that she shot the best score between the two of us on Sunday (believe me, everyone including her Grandma knew it by the following afternoon). And my wife had wondered if she would be comfortable? She absolutely loved it! If anyone has any doubts about Appleseed, they shouldn't. Safety is the number one rule and everyone was willing to help each other with any need that came up. We are so committed that we have already signed up for an Appleseed closer to home in November. Oh yeah, congratulations to Robby and the dozen or so others who made it to Rifleman! It was also so nice to meet Annie.
This should have/will hit mailboxes this week.
I hope it's not inappropriate to link to my own pages - but in the tiny section of my own webspace dedicated to firearms, etc - I wrote up my experience of my first Appleseed from Oct 6-7 in New Smyrna FL. I re-posted it here also in the specific after-action report for that location/date also:

Was just curious to find out why the osage beach group does not post any AAR reports. any help would be great. thanks
I had the pleasure of attending this 2 day class with the most wonderful instructors I have ever met. These guys were knowledgable, helpful, caring, dedicated, compassionate AND Passionate about their mission. I would not hesitate to take another weekend class (and believe me it was grueling on this OLD, tired and worn body of mine) because the experience was without comparison AND I want my RIFLEMAN patch. (PSSSST can we call it rifle PERSON? LOL) To all of the instructors- my respect and heartfelt thanks for the fabulous job you did. I am going to practice till we meet again and achieve the honor and distinction of carrying forth the traditions on which our country was founded.

What she said times two! Everything was awesome. Wishing I had made the time sooner to attend a event. Looking forward to another one in the near future. Until then lots of dry fire practice.

An Appleseed mention here:
Another goal that keeps her busy is "...to become a 'Red Hat' in the Appleseed.program. I'm an IIT-4 now (Orange Hat--highest level instructor-in-training) and just need to pass my next progress check to become a full fledged Instructor."

Wow! There I was about to post a great review and my Regional Coordinator beat me to it. The shoot may have been in Virgina but I believe he would have found the same experience in any other state too. The podcast runs 33 minutes with the good stuff begining about the 4 minute mark and going to the 31 minute mark. If you ever doubt our program, give this a listen to raise your spirits. http://www.thelegacypodcast.com/episode-102-my-evaluation-of-project-appleseed/

Bob Owens mentions Appleseed on the first day of 2013. I ran across this on Facebook after it was liked and shared by 2 friends in different parts of the U.S.

I thought that you should read the following written by a young post-teenage female student.
The four ladies came to us last spring with NO, NONE, ZERO prior experience or knowledge of any type of marksmanship. They have attended several Appleseed events in the past year. Their shooting skills are progressing. They all understand the different parts of instruction and could present an entire course on their own if they had to!!! And I believe that they would if we were not providing it. We have all made a difference for them and for many, many other students.
Thank You,
SMURF
A Learning Experience
When my friend invited me along to learn how to shot a rifle, I did not know what
to expect. All that the flyer said was the name of the program,"APPLESEED", the dates,
and that I would learn how to shoot a rifle and learn about our American history. But the
only thing I cared about on that flyer was "Rifle Marksmanship Skills". I had always
wanted to learn to shoot, and here was my chance.
I knew I would have to find some way to ask my parents, so they would let me go.
After telling them that my friend was bringing her mom, and her mom would make sure
everything was safe, they agreed to let me go. I could not believe it; I was going to learn
how to shoot a rifle. A full day was planned, from 8am to 5 pm, with a small lunch break.
We were loaned rifles, and the day began. I could not wait to start shooting, but the most
important thing about using any type of firearm is safty. The instructor explained the safty
instructions, and also talked about the events that took place on April 19th, 1775. I also
learned some interesting facts about these events that I had never heard.
Paul Revere's Ride, the Battles of Lexington and Concord, and "The Shot Heard
Round the World" were some of the events that the instructor talked about. All the
colonist wanted was representation in England, which as English citizens they were
entitled to receive. The colonists had not even thought of seperating from England at this
point. Yet the British regulars were ordered to find and remove all firearms from the
colonists, because they did not want the colonists armed in case it came down to a fight.
All the other raids by the Regulars had been peaceful, with no opposition from the
colonists, which is why it makes this particular raidmemorable in American history. The
colonists had no intention of letting the Regulars take any more of their arms, so they
alarmed the countryside. The call for help, started by Paul Revere's Ride, even reached
people in Kentucky, which showed how the system for the Minute Men was organized
and well planned in advance, not accidental. The Minute Men were ordinary men who
were ready to respond at a moments's notice. They put up a stand to the Regulars and so
the Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first of the American Revolution.
The instructor told these stories of people during that time in order to make it
more personal and to illustrate how much these people sacrificed for our freedom today.
Isaac Davis was one such man. He was a handy man in his town and a Minute Man. He
responded to the call and grabbing his rifle, he turned to his wife and said, "Take care of
the children" and left. His children were sick with something similar to scarlet fever and
his wife felt that she would never see him alive again. Isaac Davis died that day, during
the battle. John Adams once said, "Posterity! You will never know how much it cost the
present generation to preserve your freedom! I hope you will make a good use of it. If you
do not, I shall repent in Heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it". Many other
men responded the same way as Isaac Davis, ready to give their lives for their rights and
their freedom.
At last, it was time to shoot. I was taught to make my body as steady as possible,
in order to shoot straighter. The instructor showed everyone a little green army man, one
sprawled out on the ground, and told us to get used to lying like that. I became so sore
from lying like that little green army man, or lying prone as it is officially called. But
when the day ended, I didn't want to go home
.
I had so much fun at Appleseed, but the first time there I did not realize how much
of an impact it would have on my life or on the lives of others. I learned through this
program, that the American people must become involved in their government, that we
have a say, and that we must write letters to our representatives, letting them know we
either disagree with or support their decisions. When I see people reenacting the American
Revolution and who are willing to share their enthusiasm for our history, it makes me so
proud to be an American. People should really get involved in their heritage and what it
means to be an American.
Project Appleseed was founded to instruct Americans on their heritage, and teach
rifle marksmanship. The name "Appleseed" is from Johnny Appleseed, who went around
the country, and planted apple seeds. He did not wait to see if the tree would grow, he
moved on and kept planting, and if he had waited for the tree to grow he would never
have planted so many trees. The job for anyone who participates in this program is to
spread the goals, regardless of whether or not those seeds take root.
After enjoying myself immensely at Appleseed, I wanted others to participate in
this event as well. My sister joined me at the first Appleseed I went to, and I brought my
mom to the next. Even though she did not love all the lying on the ground, she now
participates in other ways, such as letting others know of this great organization. I then
brought my dad and my other sister to the event, and they both loved it, and can't wait to
go to the next one. The only family member I still have to bring is my little brother, but I
will certainly bring him when he is old enough, because I want him to share in this
enriching experience.
Learning how to shoot a rifle is not the most important thing I have learned from
Project Appleseed. Inspiring people to become involved in the government and to
understand the sacrifice that our freedom cost is the important thing. We risk losing our
freedom that others have paid so dearly for, by not being aware and understanding our
history.
Words written by an Appleseed student for her school project in 2012.

From Sipsey Street Irregulars, an honarable mention...
http://sipseystreetirregulars.blogspot.com/2013/01/in-meantime-while-others-are-gnashing.html
--snip--
In the meantime, while others are gnashing their teeth in frustration . . .While we are waiting for either (a) the other shoe to drop, or, (b) the panic to subside, there are a number of things you can be doing besides being frustrated that you can't immediately buy what you want as far as firearms and ammunition.
How are your long-term storage food stocks? There is no panic in that market -- yet. See to your logistics. If you are temporarily stymied on bullets, look to your beans.
How's your fitness? Take out your frustration by getting in shape. TG note:Amen to that!
See to your marksmanship skills. Go to the range, attend an Appleseed shoot!
