Title: AAR Minot, ND January 28, 2012
Post by: ndrifleman on January 30, 2012, 11:54:08 AM
We had a great event this past Saturday.  It was one-day only, but everyone seemed to absorb what they needed to know and we had three new riflemen!  Congratulations again, Levi, Mark, & Sam.

Because the Junior Air Rifle Team was busy using the actual range until noon, we started at 10AM and went through the first two strikes of history.  We then did some practical demonstrations and teaching of the prone Steady Hold Factors before breaking for lunch.  When we came back together in 20 or 30 minutes, the range was open and we went at a pretty rapid clip the rest of the day.

Started with a pretty pitiful redcoat score, but impressed everyone by the end of the day with our nearly across-the-board 400% increase in accuracy.  We managed to cover all the ground necessary, from a short lecture on full distance shooting to ball and dummy, carding the sights, the third strike, 4 or 5 AQTs, and a final wrap-up benediction.

The range was great to work with, especially seeing as it is winter here in ND!  We had a few requests for an outdoor mid-winter shoot so people have a chance to earn their Icicle badge.  We'll see about that.

Kim Fundingsland from the Minot Daily came and then wrote up a nice article about Project Appleseed in the region.

Thanks again for the excellent instructions!
At the next shoot ask me about that orange hat again.

Why wait 'till the next shoot?   ^-^

Great job, and congratulations to the newest American Riflemen!

Mid-winter in ND?  You won't need the Icicle badge - You're OD badge will ice up all on its own. ..:..

I have to keep baby mama and her brats in that lifestyle that they have become accustomed to. So I need to get my certification in the latest technology for my job first. After that it's ON!

All right, next shoot, coming up!  Yes, Mark was shooting the scoped bolt rifle.  Pretty nimble with it, too, as his score showed.  Burrito Hand Sam, as a father/husband you can have a good influence just on your own family with what Appleseed's about (liberty/Constitution/heritage).  Instructing them is even more important than anybody else. :-)

Actually, the weather was so nice out we could have been shooting outside! This winter has been well above average temperature, even setting record highs on several occasions!

Sam, glad you are willing to step up! We can always use an extra hand!
