Greetings fellow Appleseed enthusiasts.
Mike Thompson, our host at the Piru Ca. Home range, has kindly given us the use of the full distance range for a morning of KD AQT's. Meet at 10 AM for safety briefing, shots down range at 1100 (11.11.11 @11:00 ^:)^) ) BBQ to follow around 1400 or when we've had enough. Menu will be 'santa maria tri-tip and all the fixin's.
While this will be a "run what you brung" kind of deal, there are a few of us who will be shooting our 'US Rifle, model 1903/O3 A3's", in keeping with the history of 'that day'.
I will remind those not familiar with the history of the AQT that it was developed for that particular rifle.
Please RSVP myself or cowgirl ducky if you plan on attending and if you will be planning on eating. I
Event is open to all who wish to attend. Bring your non-appleseed co-worker or family member or friend for a day of low pressure, fun and fellowship on what is the un-official aniversery of Appleseed's 'home range' in california being secured.
Range Fee's will be collected.
roll call:

Now I know how Cameron felt while everyone else was at the 1st CA. instructor meeting in Fresno having fun. (rubbing elbows with the rich and famous) **)
I'll be setting up for the Mariposa shoot that day.
You folks 'll just have to muster on and have as much fun as you can without me. LOL ;D
I was running the Piru shoot with Dano that same weekend.
You will be missed, Cal!

I'm in.
Was going to say "make sure Justin hears about it," but that's already covered. :D
See here I was just like : "d'ho dee d'ho, gee whiz, guess It's time to post about what mike ok'd TWO WEEKS AGO. "
So, here we go.
Bring your friends.
:DH:
Is there any chance that the 1919 can come out and play :~
I'd love to fire that from the hip.
WOW and DAMN! THis is the Friday before the Calguns-CRPA Tactical Turkey Shoot. Fortunately the shoot is on Sunday. I will catch up with the boss on Monday and request the day off. So I am in tentatively. :-) I wont have a period rifle though, I suspect my AR will follow me up.
We may have a spare Garand or two between us. You never know.
Just sayin'. ::)
sure if one is there i will learn on a OMSR "Old Man Sporting Rifle" ;)
and leave my MSR "Modern Sporting Rifle" at home ;D
Don't know at this point if I will be back up in NoNeva that weekend yet....if not, will be there.....probably with something (or several somethings) that are very loud to shoot......
If I can't be there, y'all have a round of fire for me, yes?
TTYS, and God bless.
LLP
I will have to check with the wife. If I can get a hall pass, I'm in.
Count me in, too...
I will break out the 1903 Mk. 1 for an old school AQT beside Kool Aid and Bob 210,
and of course I might try another AQT with my Krag!
BBQ sounds good to me... Whats the pony up for this?
Does anyone have or is anyong bringing an m1 carbine?
Trying to find child care for Thurs & Fri. If I can then I'll bring a carbine...amongst other things.

I can bring my carbine as well...
There will be rockers, sure, but there will also be rollers! 8)
Ok, I am officially in.
Also as much as a period rifle would be cool, I will use my AR, I like MSR's

I got a few Carbines to bring.
I doubt I will be able to ring the 1K gong with it though.... :'(
For that, I will use the 1917, or the 1903. I might try it with the Trap door 45/70... Hmmm....
"I might try it with the Trap door 45/70... Hmmm...."
I don't know why, but suddenly the chorus from "Somewhere over the Rainbow" just started playing in my head........ **) **) **) **) ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^ ..:.. O0
I'm not yet sure if I'll be there...
-but-
just in case no one's thought of it, it would be righteous and proper to extend an invite to our most gracious host, Mike Thompson.
just sayin'.
Tentatively count Myself and Robby in, AR & Mosin

BBQ to follow around 1400 or when we've had enough.
So the BBQ will be after dark ;D ;D. Sounds like a great time. I'll be in Boulder City that weekend.
We DO have fresh targets and plenty of them yes?
Kool, my strapping Greek brother, I regret that I most likely will not make it.
If by chance Jacques shows up, I expect a nice photo of a 3-way hug with Jacques, Hollywood and yourself, I miss my 11 '09 big brothers!
I have checked and the fiance and I will be there.
I do not have ammo for a period rifle, but I have been wanting to try my VZ58 at known distance. Should be interesting.

We might give rockers to the original 9.9.9 crew (afore mentioned dudes being among them) as long as they are there in spirtit, and I think you arlready are mah brutha!
No child care available...guess I'm bringing my daughter.
I'm planning on camping out Thursday (and prob Friday) night. Justin had brought up reviewing KD that night and perhaps in the morning.
-Peter
Do we still need to be "non magnetic" at Piru in November?
Koolaide, I will be bringing the fiance with. She has never shot a rifle before. So, this should be interesting. LOL. I will bring a .22
Ok day before check.
This KD day is still going to happen? Ya or Na
Can we use bimetal ammo?
Should I bring anything for the BBQ?
Does anyone want to carpool? I will be coming out of Azusa off the 210 and passing Monrovia, Pasadena, Montrose and a few other hamlets.
I plan on being on the freeway by 5am to beat Friday morning traffic.
Should I bring an Easy Up?
Are there items still needed to be brought?

I want to carpool, unfortunately I will be getting the last few zzzzzzzzzzz's before I have to get up for work. I checked and yes Bob, I do have to work on your birthday. Can you believe it? Have a Blessed Happy Birthday Bob and Mike.
Happy Veteran's Day and a huge THANK YOU to All you Veterans that will be out enjoying a freedom that you have helped maintain. And as far as Active Duty Military, Thank You as well.
Okey- back from doing prep alllllll day.
Magnetic Ammo Question: have not asked mike, my self. Anybody know if there's ever an exception up there?
I only checked in just now, maybe too late to call him.
I am gonna leave west LA around 0630, heading for the range. I'll get an answer.
Food is covered (Kool's BBQ), drinks somewhat, and desert is NOT.
If you wanna bring side dishes based on this menu:
Santa Maria Style BBQ (Dry rub Tri-tip)
Corn Tortilla's con Queso
Pinto Beans
Corn off the cob
Fried Potatos
Monster/Coke'/Seltzer Water.
I have 20 stakes and 8 Single shooter target backers, that plan is to get there by 0800 and have two set at each KD station. Run all stages concurrent. At that set up, 8 shooters on the line. Expanding as man power and materials are available.
There's gonna be plenty of fun, and plenty of chores to go around. Come early, stay late and partake of as much of either as it suits you.
To all the Piru bootcamp alumni, this is especially for you. You been running shoots and going all over serving this thing: Come have some fun. Come be in the group photo.
We gonna shoot. We gonna eat. We gonna fellowship.
Think of the guys who made sure it is possible we can still do it.
Thank you all for coming together on 2 weeks notice. I can't tell you how happy this makes me.
See you in 12 and a half hours!
Brother kool

Great to shoot with y'all. Big thanks to koolaid for the mighty nice BBQ, and bigger thanks to Mike Thompson for all his support. Doesn't get much better than that.
Thank YOU all- It's hard to remember sometimes, that we are not alone in this or in life. Nice chance to gather and break bread.
Thanks to my friend Jason for coming out and running the BBQ (hey- he's from texas, right?)
I was asked to run more of these (two a year), so please be on the look out for the NEXT one on MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND.
Till then
See you on the trail......
brotherkool
Yep, good stuff, Thanks Kool, and Jason haven't had bbq that good in quite a while!
It is always good to see tho 'ol familiar faces again and really cool to meet those that I haven't yet had the pleasure.
As for goneJhonny (sp?), nice show bro, next time I'll probably have almost as much fun just spotting your AQT's.
Thanks to all!

I am at a loss for words that would accurately express my gratitude for you guys allowing me to experience this fine day with you. If thought out correctly, "overwhelmed" would probably be in there somewhere... Appleseed has had a profound impact on my life. A few of you were some of my very first instruction at Appleseed, a small handful I've met along the trail... many of you I'd only ever heard about in story and myth. Literally everything I've grown to know about rifles, marksmanship, our heritage and being a Rifleman - I've learned from those that most of you guys taught at one point or another.
It's an interesting morning when you show up to shoot... having never shot the intended COF's, surrounded by people that all seem to have known each other for years - knowing in your heart that your performance will not only be the judge of you, but the judge of YOUR instructors by THEIR instructors before them! It's even more interesting to be walking out to post targets, awkwardly muttering the SHF's, 6-steps & the NPOA drill repeatedly under your breath - trying desperately to not get caught / heard. Fortunately, the last on my mantra was to "trust your NPOA" (well... that, and you'd better not shoot anyone else's targets)!
A KD pin & a 1k patch later, I hope I did right by you guys. I gave it my all and will wear them proud!
Beyond the shooting, I got to witness a great many people who all seemed to share a truly unique bond - that were truly happy to see & encourage each other. I hope you guys realize how rare & special that is... no BS, no drama, no macho... just a Rifleman's Quarter (read: half) Mile and some wicked BBQ!
It was a long one for me, as I stayed in Piru to IIT the shoot up the road over the weekend (Dano bumped me up to an IIT3!). Still more trudging to do, but I've no plans on slowing down anytime soon...

Hey Andy, as far as this is concerned... I'm just SUPER relieved that we're on the SAME SIDE! Whew...
Anyhow, thanks again for having me! Count me in anytime / anywhere!

What a great event! It was good to see all the Instructors that showed up for this event. Good food, good people, good times. A special thank you to Koolaid for putting this together and taking care of the food! Because this is was such a great time, we will be scheduling this type of event on a biannual basis. It looks like we will do one on the Monday of the Memorial day weekend in May and one on Veteran's day November 11th every year! Make a point of attending. You won't regret it. Hope to see you there!
And to every good idea needs attach a dude to see it through-
I got the contract....
See you at the next one, and on the trail.....
