Title: 18th Century Documents online source
Post by: cannonman61 on August 19, 2011, 10:24:21 PM
Gentlemen,

While it has been a while since I have able to be active in the field and I am not all that active on the board as I dislike superflous and distracting posts much as many of you do, I have been reading and watching the direction of the organization.

It appears the history area has been a bit neglected in comparison to some of the more, ah, contentious areas.

In order to improve the reach of instructors and help them improve their historical backgrounds I offer the following link: http://www.colonialsense.com/Community/Online_Resources/Online_Resources/Documents.php

It is a public site and to the extent I have perused it, seems 100% accurate.

I hope to have been of service.

Actually, with the introduction and hoped and projected growth of "LibrarySeeds", I'd say the history portion of AS is being considerably ramped up - and your post comes not only at an opportune moment, but carries extra value because of the recent history "ramp up".

     Thanks for making it. O0

George Washington - victim of Biowarfare?

I just wanted to mention that if one has the time, searching the Digital Copies at the ARC : Archival Research Catalog (http://arcweb.archives.gov/arc/action/BasicMultimediaSearchForm?%24searchId=13&%24showFullDescriptionTabs.selectedPaneId=&%24showArchivalDescriptionsTabs.selectedPaneId=&%24resultsPartitionPageModel.targetModel=true&%24partitionIndex=0&%24sort=RELEVANCE_ASC&%24resultsPartitionPageModel.search=true&%24highlight=false&%24submitId=1) can be interesting and may provide images to use in The History part of Appleseed.

An example (this is a link to a digital image that might slow down with B/W - FYI)  : Sarah Benjamin's Eyewitness Account of the Surrender at Yorktown, 11/20/1837 - 11/20/1837

ARC Identifier 1636083 / MLR Number A1 2A  (http://arcweb.archives.gov/arc/action/ShowFullRecordDigital?initpagemodel=on&mn=resultsDetailPageModel&goto=84&sort=&%24searchId=12&%24partitionIndex=0&%24digiSummaryPageModel.targetModel=true&%24DateFilter.detailId=-1&%24singleHierarchy.search=true&%24resultsDetailPageModel.search=true&%24singleHierarchy.partitionIndex=0&%24locationFilter.name=locationFilter&%24showArchivalDescriptionsTabs.selectedPaneId=digital&%24resultsSummaryPageModel.targetModel=true&%24resultsPartitionPageModel.search=true&%24highlight=false&%24levelOfDescriptionFilter.name=levelOfDescriptionFilter&%24levelOfDescriptionFilter.detailId=-1&%24singleHierarchy.name=singleHierarchy&%24showFullDescriptionTabs.selectedPaneId=&%24digiDetailPageModel.currentPage=0&%24resultsPartitionPageModel.targetModel=true&%24resultsSummaryPageModel.pageSize=10&%24DateFilter.name=DateFilter&%24submitId=4&%24singleHierarchy.recordId=600985&%24digiDetailPageModel.resultPageModel=true&%24resultsDetailPageModel.currentPage=80&%24documentTypeFilter.detailId=0&%24resultsDetailPageModel.pageSize=1&%24sort=RELEVANCE_ASC&%24documentTypeFilter.name=documentTypeFilter&%24locationFilter.detailId=-1&tab=init/showFullDescriptionTabs/digital&detail=digiViewModel/1)

The official identifier number doesn't mean much to Attendees until some Instructor realizes maybe it could be used at an October 19th Appleseed Event to showcase History and make it "more" relevant to the actual day that people are attending an Appleseed.

Too much?

(sorry for the poor grammer)
