We are running out of time to experience the living history of the Patrick Henry speech this year.
Is anyone interested in attending the speech in August and possibly meeting at a restaurant afterwards?
VAshooter
I'm in. I'm free each weekend except the 20th and 21st (Montpelier Appleseed).
Who else is in?
Mike
Let me know when you pick a date.
If this is the one with George Washington, LMK when you pick a date. If possible, I'd like to experience this.
Please tell me when, where, etc. I'm very interested.
I'll be at the CMP matches in Perry through the 7th, BTW, so I'm hoping that the date is later.
I'm also looking forward to the dinner, etc, after. O0
Let's aim for the 28th. Come on up Fred. It is not to be missed. Will that workwork for everyone?
What does everyone think of either the 14th or the 28th? The reenactment is at St. Johns Church in Richmond's Church Hill.

Fred, this is the one with George Washington, Patrick Henry and other Historic Virginians.
If y'all choose the 28th, I'm 95% chance in.... BeSwift
If you can stand an old woman around I probably could do the 28th.

The more the merrier. We could do some camping and make aa shooting history weekend.
Mike
The folks that put this on are amazing. Before its over you'll start to feel like your were really there and the cold shivers will start down your spine and the goose bumps on your arms/neck as they lay out the issues they are confronting and discuss how they feel and what they will do about it.
The "english" language we speak today is a poor imitation of the past. Pay attention to what they say and you'll realize that you can tell a man exactly what you think of his ideas without every using a curseword or an adjective that describes his inability to think/act rationally.
One of the things that makes it great is when you come in to be seated there will be seats all through the audience seats that are "reserved" with little signs. After everyone is seated the actors come in and take those reserved seats in their period costumes/makeup and the history lesson begins. You'll be sitting right next to those people that made the history you'll be learning about. Its a wonderful experience.
Definitely interested on either date. This has been high on the todo list all summer.

I need numbers as soon as possible to be able to reserve seats. The 28th is the second to last even of the year. We have done this weekend before and the church was completely filled. So talk it up to people who might be interested.
Mike
Is this event scheduled for 28th of August? I am certain I can't make it, but I have family in Fairfax and would like to encourage them to go with their kids. I didn't see anything specific on the website about this event. Please let me know any more details that I can pass along so it doesn't sound so vague.
From memorial day to labor day each year the Second Virginia Convention and Patrick Henry's speech there is recreated at St. Johns Church each Sunday afternoon. The URL is http://www.historicstjohnschurch.org/hist_reenactments.php
There is more information at the website.

Actually, Mike, I hope you are committed that weekend to the
Ramseur AIBC - http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=22481.0
You and I spoke in the last few days about combining the weekend of the 28th with a
VA AIBC, along with Patrick Henry.
Your thread at http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=24369.0 has gotten two dozen views, but no nibbles, so let's see how it shapes up.
I will make an effort to be at the Patrick Henry event, regardless.
Two for me
Count the wife and me in
Randall,
Excellent! It will be a pleasure to have you.

I will call to determine what the cutoff is for reservations for the 28th. Right now, I don't know. But it is usually possible to get tickets at the door, though I have seen them have to bring in extra chairs. So I prefer reservations to luck.

On a related note, how about restaurant reservations for after? I liked that idea when you mentioned it at the outset.
Perhaps we (you) should also ask who will join us for that?
On a Sunday Afternoon in Richmond, reservations are not generally required. We could hit a Micro-brewery across the River (Legends) or head a little West to one of the Fan District's places (Joes Inn comes to mind) aloing with a few more.
Mike
Need to add a +1 please.... Thx BeSwift
I have made reservations at St. Johns for 20. We still have a couple of spots left if you know anyone who would like to attend. They only allow 3 groups to make reservations per event.
Mike
We will need to meet at 12:45 at the West Door of St. Johns. Please be on time. We will enter as a group and be seated before the front doors are opened. Let's plan on meeting a little before that to make sure that we are not late.
Heck knowing me, I might hang the hammock in the cemetary that surrounds the church to be on time. ;D
Hey Mike, whats the weather forecast for Sat and Sunday?Randall
Richmond is expecting Tropical storm conditions on Saturday. Sunday is supposed to be ok, but there could be damage. I will be checking with St. Johns to see if the reenactment will be held today.
Mike
Still planning on coming unless cancelled.
Just off the phone with St. Johns. There are currently no plans to cancel the Sunday 28 August Reenactment of the Second Virginia Convention. I plan to be there if there are no crises at work or home due to the hurricane. I have reserved 20 seats and a few people will likely not be there so contact me if you are interested. There is no cost but the program does accept donations. See http://www.historicstjohnschurch.org/hist_main.php for more information.
After this weekend there is only one more left in the season for this event.
Mike
See you Sunday, will be in Richmond tonight good Lord willing and the creek's don't rise ;)
In His grip,
julia
If Sunday Morning presents us with tolerably passable weather and we don't have a power outage/flooding issue, I'll jump in the car and see you all there.
Mike we were planing to leave Sat. and get a room in Richmond or close by,its a good six hours for us,keep me posted on how things are going if you don't mind. Thanks Randall
Randall, not sure where you are coming from but stopping West of Richmond might be a good idea. The storm should stay East of Richmond but we will still have a serious wind and rain event here with the peak winds looking like 9PM to midnight in Saturday. By Sunday sunrise, we should be in the clear according to the projections. 50 or 100 miles West could make a huge difference in the effects. If that fits your travel directions, it is worth considering.
Will do Randall. Depending on your route, (58 or 77 to 81) you might consider Charlottesville area. It is 1.5 hours from Richmond and should be uneventful there tomorrow. We are looking at 30-40 mph winds with gusts to 60mph in Richmond as well as 3-6 inches of rain.
I hope that you guys can make it, but I understand if things don't work out.
I will keep you updated on the situation unless I lose power and internet.
Mike
Thanks Mike
In Richmond. See everyone Sunday unless Patrick Henry gets canceled.
Julia,
You might think of a trip to Charlottesville today. Check first but the weather is supposed to be a non-event there. You guys could see Monticello and there are other things as well.
Mike
It is a pleasant day in Richmond today following yesterday. But you should know, lots of trees down. Greater than 70% of the area has no power. No idea on the re-enactment. I am temporarily in my office which has T-1 connections and a generator.

No sign that the event is cancelled I will be at the West doors (Glass dors on side) at 12:30. There are trees down in places, but traffic is moving in the West End. I am leaving the house in 10 minutes. I can be reached at my cell (804) 307-3428 until 12:45 (when we should be seated in the Church.
Mike
Sign at St. Johns saying the event is cancelled. If people want to get together for lunch, etc. call my cell at (804) 307-3428
HI everyone!
Sorry we missed you. We were at the church this morning, helped clear debris from grounds and walkways. But, we had no internet capability to let folks know canceled. Sorry, hopefully we will cross paths soon. til then...
