Title: Air Force Academy Appleseed 'Clinic'
Post by: KellyH on February 06, 2011, 01:12:28 PM
I wanted to take a few moments to thank the eight fine Appleseed instructors that braved the weather yesterday to come out to the Air Force Academy and help with the Sandhurst Infantry Competition Team and the Combat Shooting Team. Because of the cadets highly controlled schedule the most time I could get was one day of shooting for both teams. I made a call on a local board asking for help which was answered by esaybee and then picked up here. Despite the relatively short amount of shooting time (1 day) they were able to a lot of good information and shooting time in for the cadets.

The Sandhurst Team (http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?storyID=123007610) and the CST both produce officers that often track into various Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) fields such as Special Tactics Officers (STO), Combat Rescue Officers (CRO), Air Liaison Officers (ALO) and other specialized Air Force and AFSOC positions. Given the current level of funding for small arms profeciency that the Air Force provides, organizations like Appleseed, its volunteers and quality information are a godsend to programs like ours. I'm sorry I don't remember everyone's name, but I really appreciate the help that Alan, Kim, Andy, Eric, Jim, Rich, Dan, Pete(?) and the others provided for us yesterday. I hope that someone will be able to post up some pictures to share with everyone.

Thank you again and stay safe!

Kelly, thanks for having us.  I think we would be happy to help anytime and lets hope the April results reflect some of the improvement I saw on Saturday.

Good group of young Americans, makes me proud.

Don't forget Rich!
Good group of cadets, lots of smiles on the line by the end of the day, even with the cold and snow.

Looks like a fine bunch of folks out on a fine shooting day in colorado.

Thanks to the Academy for having Appleseed come visit.   Thank you to all the Great Appleseed instructors in Colorado.

To the Cadets, Good luck at the Sandhurst comp--Shoot straight, Shoot Fast and reload quickly.  Dry-practice can be very helpful when you cannot get to the range--Work on your positions, fire by the numbers(six steps), find your NPOA and put in on the target, check it, check it, check it again and be honest in calling the shots--You Will Improve!

Best to all of you from the Gunnison high country.

Al Smith
