Title: Picacho Gun Club Talk
Post by: TaosGlock on November 12, 2010, 01:39:52 AM
We were the guest speakers.
BF and I gave the members a 30 min. presentation of the program. We talked about the history of the program nationwide and here in NM.
Then we launched into what to expect at an AS. We explained targets and what instruction was given on the fundamentals.
Then we explained we are different from other programs because of the history/heritage presentations.
Performance, choices and just enough other bits to pique their interest. Stuff not taught in schools. We had a copy of PR's Ride which generated a fair amount of interest.
We wrapped it up with the Posterity quote and answered questions.

After the program their was lots of networking.
The secretary said we can use their clubhouse at Butterfield anytime we want. She wants to get more kids from air rifle shooting, 4H and hunter safety into a real shooting program. And the history portion was something she said they needed to hear.
Coralie Carrier who is the President said she was very impressed with the program. She is also very active with the NRA education branch here in NM as well as the BOW at the NRA WC. This has been the most useful networking we have had to date. We usually set up right next to them at the gun shows too.

The LC Tea Party had a few members present and they want us to give a history talk. That should generate a few more shooters. The Tea Party member present said there were likely not a whole lot of shooters in the TP.   Typical...so much for a modern day "Sons of Liberty" >:( A few have shot with us! O0

We will keep these relationship fires burning.

The PGC has monthly shooting events with various individual events in separate bays,
so maybe I can help create a new event: Clean the Redcoat.
"That's right folks, step right up". "13 rounds shot from any position, any rifle and no time limit". "Easy stuff".
Winner gets a free tee shirt and a coupon to an Appleseed. Naturally frame it up with a bit of history to tie in the shooting. Tug at the heartstrings a bit.
Actually the losers need to come. :-\
Or maybe a CAQT shot prone with a 210 score..don't worry still tough in prone as we know from the Redcoat scores. :-[
I will even loan them a rifle. And any time they think the rifle is rigged, I will chop out a 1" square to show them it ain't the rifle. >:D
I will even coach them into a good position.

Bottom line is we want to fill those firing damn lines to the max in this state.

Good stuff TG and good ideas. We've given similar talks to local scout leaders, HE classes, etc. That idea of throwing up a red coat, run it for a T-shirt is a good idea and might draw some interest from those who "think" we can't teach them anything.....O.L.

Howdy Dan,

Sounds like a good bit of enthusiasm created from your pitch!!

I really like the idea of the "Clean the Red Coat" program!!
Think it should go national immediately!
I use the CAQT on friends and acquaintances during our Sunday morning shoots almost every week.
Got a lot of folks wanting to practice on them all the time.
Now, I just gotta get them 7th stepping!

See Y'all tomorrow.

Happy Trails....Jerry

Do like the progressives and drug dealers, give them a taste and if they want more, they have to attend an Appleseed!  &) .....O.L.

Ah, that's a really good bit of salesmanship right there.   Thanks for the idea,
