Title: Ramseur RBC August 29-September 3 2010
Post by: crashkid2k on August 21, 2010, 02:18:04 AM
August RBC at Ramseur is fast approaching, and we only have one instructor signed up.

As you might have guessed, that instructor is me, and I could use a little help.

Full-time help will divide the workload, but I'll take what I can get.

Part-time help would be great, too, especially on Sunday the 29th (all day) and Wednesday the 1st (afternoon).  I can cover the rest of the RBC by myself, but would appreciate any break I can get.

Thanks!

There's been some improvements to the Home Range.

We have on-site indoor facilities for those who don't want to camp out.

Complete with electricity (bring a box fan for air circulation), and bunk bed (bring a mattress/sleeping bag, etc).

All for a $5/day donation to the program (instructors are free), max of four bunking in a hut.

Also coming soon: new indoor showers.

This is an older picture of the sheds but they are now painted and wired for lights and receptacles. We plan on improving them as we have time. Three are at the range now one will be for showers in a month or two. For the hard core shooters we still have the primitive camp sites and the old showers at least for know.

You know its cold when you turn off the shower water, grab your towel, dry off, put your clothes on (takes a few minutes, right) and then find you feet are so stiff/cold you have to fight to get them in your shoes (hurts, too, when you start trying to bend your toes going into the shoes).

See, I do have some good memories of Ramseur in February..... ;)

Five star accommodations compared to  Wildflicken Germany in February and taking a bird bath out of your steel pot. Burrrr! Maybe if we make the range more comfortable more family s will come.

Folks, even instructors get to shoot the pop ups (tough to find something else that's as much fun) and during the part of the RBC where the new instructors start practicing calling the line and running an Appleseed the instructors also get to shoot at the 25 meter line.  If you like to shoot attending an RBC is a chance to:
1.  meet and positively influence new instructors
2.  shoot pop ups
3.  get another Appleseed/RWVA T-shirt
4.  have several nights of sitting around a campfire talking with folks with the same beliefs and interests you have and hold dear
5.  see (and maybe shoot) different types of rifles (I used to take my FAL down there and let folks shoot it, and my little itty bitty XM177 looking AR15)
6.  meet Fred at the end of the week RBC dinner

You won't believe how peaceful and beautiful it is when you get up early in the morning, eat breakfast and walk up to the known distance range to sit down and call home and watch the sun come up over the trees while you let them know everything is okay in NC and find out everything is okay at home.  Its cool (compared to later in the day), its quiet (an occassional car going down the road by the range is the only noise) and the birds, deer, squirrels, etc. move across the range in front of you.

Have you ever heard a whip-or-will call at night?  Don't know if I spelled that right or not but you can hear them calling at night down there in NC.

If you don't go, at least once, you will never know what you missed.

More detail on meeting folks at the Ramseur RBC's.

Here's a list of people I've met and/or shot rifles beside of at Ramseur RBCs.  Read over this list and ask yourself where else you can meet folks like this:

Fred, Son of Martha, Jr. Birdman, Ornell, Scout, The Guy, Dragonwood, Vashooter, Atticus, 762BBQ, Crashkid2K, Sheepdog,

Darn, gotta get dressed to go to work (work always gets in the way don't it).  I'll get back to the list this evening.

Really wish I could commit to something, but family will be in that weekend and I don't have my work schedule for next week yet.  I'll see what I can do, Crash.

Hey guys, thanks for the support.

As many of you know, this isn't exactly my first RBC, but an RBC is a lot of work.

Any help would be great; show up whenever you can.  My voice will probably need a break.

Crash,

Iron Pony(RH) and kd_deadeye(IIT0) will be there Sunday.  What time would you like us there.
I will also try to get Wednesday off to help out.

Hey guys, help Crash out.  A Ramseur RBC with on-site camping & "facilities" is great, and Crash is excellent.  He ran the RBC I attended as an IIT and it was the best Appleseed experience I've had.

Boy, I remember those. Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels were the same. The best was the Reforger exercises in the Alps.  O0

Hey guys, you may or may not remember me from the weekend seed at he end of July, but I mentioned that I could possibly volunteer some help given my lack of a real job. Well things aren't any different so far, and the offer still stands. As close as I am to you, it's almost like helping a neighbor.

Minor change of plans, Crash...Kidney stones have me sidelined.  I was out all week with them last week, and have a Dr's appointment this Wednesday; I can't work, but I can't do much of anything else, either.

Sorry bro, but I've gotta call out on this one.
