Title: Athens, Oh July 17-18
Post by: DryFire on July 19, 2010, 04:34:22 PM
What a weekend! As always, we had another great weekend in Athens, OH. Thanks to all who came to learn of their heritage and to improve their marksmanship. It was wonderful to have so many kids on the line this weekend and all were a joy to have. Those youth in our lives are the next generation, our posterity, and it is to them that we will pass the ownership of this nation.

I want to say welcome to our newest Orange hats Kenric and Donna who have followed me all over Ohio for the last year inadvertently coming to many of the shoots I have worked. Hopefully they aren't tired of me yet. Not only have they been all over Ohio they have done it with kids in tow, and some of them were not their own!  O0 Thank you so much for bringing out not only your own families, but others as well. Let Tim and Michael know we have a spot on the line any time, and I am still waiting on Mat to earn his patch.

A huge thanks to Ralph for coming out and providing us not only with shade, but also a great demo of the brown bess musket. That .75 caliber hole is impressive indeed. To Nurse Ratchett and the rest of the kitchen crew, you guys make a shoot bosses job so much easier not having to worry about cooking, the food was wonderful as always. We have got to get Peach giving her Huzzah on video for Slim.

A big huzzah to our newest Ohio rifleman Rodger and Dustin! Rodger turned in our first rifleman's score of the weekend with a 217 from his left handed bolt action. He was later joined by Dustin who shot a 221 but forgot that stage two was the seated stage and had accidentally gone prone.  ++) However he made it up and earned his patch with the next AQT and a score of 225. Congrats guys.  :---

Coaster and Rodger it was fun to have you guys over to the 100yd range Sunday, and to watch you shoot with GoldFish. Rodger proved to us that 4 moa is 4 moa no matter the distance, of course his groups were more like 2 moa, but hey he is a rifleman.  ;) Coaster turned in some impressive groups as well coming in at 3 moa. Goldfish got some good practice in and any trigger time for an instructor is a good time.

To the Love family, I can't thank you guys enough, not only for coming and shooting this weekend on the line, but also for your selfless service to this nation. It was a joy to have you guys on the line. Let us know and we can get you guys some info and material to help with the cause overseas and a home.  O0

To the cook family men, even those by marriage, it was great to have you guys on the line as a family. There sure were plenty of good groups coming out of that end of the line. Keep on with the practice and the dryfiring and we will have a new dangerous family.  &)

Sorry I am so bad with names but it truly was a joy to spend the weekend with everyone. There was a whole lot of scores in the 170s-190s this weekend and I think the heat stole from us a few rifleman/riflewoman. However let us not forget that the rifleman with the little r is a man/woman of skill, however the Rifleman with a big R is the man/woman who has skills, but also makes a difference for all of those who will come after them.

DryFire

P.S. Donna please pick a screen name, sign up, and send me a PM so I can get our newest orange hat fully on board.  O0 Kenric your pm has been sent  :~

What a weekend!  Yet another fantastic Athens Appleseed; well, OK, maybe I'm biased, but it was still a great shoot.

Congratulations, Roger and Dustin, Ohio's newest American Rifleman. :---  Rodger, shooting a 217 AND a 221 without even using the sling correctly is just amazing. O0  Your shooting was amazing.
Dustin, a fabulous shooting performance you displayed as well.  Just remember though, Stage 2 on the AQT is a shot from sitting, not prone. ;D  However, once you shot the right way, you pumped out an even better score, 225. ..:..

Athens Fish & Game crew, saying that we are spoiled in Athens is a HUGE UNDERSTATEMENT!!!  You make Appleseeds so much easier on shooters and instructors alike.  Enough can not be said about George T, Nurse Ratchett, Ralph James, Frogger, Bill, and anyone else involved in the behind-the-scenes work.

Kenric and Donna thank you for taking up the Orange Hats and answering the call to help us save this great sinking ship called America.  Keep taking that Seventh Step. :~

DryFire, I love working at shoots with you as Shoot Boss; your Shooing Instruction and History is top-notch.  Hoover, it was great having another Redhat in Athens this time, and we are all better off for it.  Thank you for making the trip.  Ishy, you told some pretty darn good Dangerous Old Men stories, especially for being your first time! 8)

Unfortunately, due to weather (thunder and lighting), some of you shooters weren't able to finish off that last AQT nor shoot the last Redcoat of the weekend. :'(  Come on back to another shoot and do it all again. :)

I know some of you took pictures, so if you don't mind too much, please post them. :)

Thanks to all involved for such a wonderful weekend!   :) I have lost count of how many shoots I have been to, but I am never disappointed in the quality of instruction and the friendliness of those in Athens.  No patch for me quite yet, but my scores did improve especially after some instructors helped me figure out my grip.  I still out-shot my little brother,  ^-^ though I am very proud to say it was by only one point.  I am thrilled to see his improvement and how much fun we had shooting together.  Dryfire's parents had a great weekend too, and I can't think of a better way to spend a weekend than with family and Appleseed friends.  That, and a Mad Minute drill that left no evidence of the star ever being on the paper :--- **), made a great weekend.  Thanks so much!

A great shoot - thanks to the AF&G Club for hosting: they always do a great job!

Orange Hats everywhere = very personal assistance, and that sets Athens apart.  Great family atmosphere with everyone willing to pitch in and get things done.

I look forward to joining the other IIT's and learning from them.  You all are awesome at the instruction, the history, and the committment you demonstrate.

Here are some quick photos I took, enjoy.

To all the staff I wish to send my thanks. i was only able to shoot on Saturday (again!) but had a great time. I left the next day for a week of scout camp and only returned Saturday.

The facilities are wonderful, what a nice addition to the clubhouse. The range staff/trainers are exceptional, and of course the food is worth the trip all by itself!

Thank you all for making me feel welcome...and I will be there for both days next time! Gotta get that Rifleman Patch!!
