Title: Bloomington, IL June 5-6
Post by: TheEditor on May 26, 2010, 12:30:47 AM
Getting ready for the Bloomington shoot coming up in a week and a half.

A reminder to all participants and instructors:  The folks who run this range are cooking lunch.  It's not free (probably $8 or $9 a head) but it is DEFINITELY worth it.  They will be preparing food for the number of pre-regs plus instructors who are scheduled to show up, so I'd like to see everyone eat their lunch, participants and instructors, so they don't lose money on excess food.  Each day will be different, and they usually have the whole meal - main course, side dish, salad, bread, dessert, ice tea or lemonade.

The other advantage of this lunch is that it is served (assuming no rain at 12:30 pm) outdoors near the picnic tables under the shade of the oaks - keeping all the students conveniently together for a lunchtime history lesson.

GunsSaveLife.com has agreed, in addition to springing for the range fees, to spring for some drinks (water, gatorade, etc.) for the shoot.

There are a couple of large canopies on site for shade behind the firing lines, that will need to be assembled and moved to the proper locations behind the line.  If storms or wind are not predicted, they can be put up on Friday; if such things are predicted, they can be put up Saturday morning by a crew of early-arriving students Saturday morning.

Both firing lines can be taken out to 100 yards on Sunday, and we want to, we could take the larger firing line out to 200 or 250 yards.  This would, however, necessitate shutting down the smaller filing line.

If you have any questions or comments in the runup to this event, post them here.

Sounds good.  You don't need to twist my arm much for a good meal.  I am in Peoria and was planning on getting there on Saturday morning and likely spending Saturday night in Peoria and coming back Sunday morning.  Let me know if you need me there on Friday.

Again, everyone should strongly consider joining Guns Save Life.  They have been strong supporters of Appleseed for quite some time now.

I can help with the set up on the canopies Friday till 4 P.M.  Let me know if you need me.
I am bringing 4 people with me to shoot.  Got 'em off the couch.  I may need another LTR.  Anyone got a loaner?

Am I reading this right?

OK, I did read it slightly wrong.

Last week - Bloomington pre-regs, June 5-6 - 30 / 45

This week - Bloomington pre-regs, June 5-6 - 45 / 46!

15 in a week!

Guess all that seventh stepping at the gsldefensetraining.com class last weekend at Darnall's had some effect!  Or maybe it was the promotion in GunNews - or whatever.

I love a sold out shoot!

Additional shoot notes for next week:

I called the range today, and gave them the preliminary numbers for lunch.  8 instructors, 45 shooters, and a little extra just in case of a couple of last minute walk ons that we could squeeeeeeze in.  Remember the thread about a "nice tight firing line"?

Two large canopies (one for each line) will be available.  To make sure that they don't blow away, we'll put them up early Saturday morning (easily done by 6-8 people in about 15 minutes each.  I'm sure lots of early arriving students can be drafted...

Bring pop up shade shelters if you have them - the more the better.

Primitive (no toliets after 6 pm) camping is available on site, no charge.

I will be there... hopefully on the Bike if I can fit all of my stuff...

Speaking of stuff, is it possible to buy some of the same things at the event that I would have bought online, and save shipping?  Nothing drastic, [which is why I haven't ordered online yet] but a few small things like extra rifleman patches, RWVA oval patches, Rockers, maybe a deck of cards and a 2x polo shirt.... [wow, that list kinda grew as I was typing it, might as well toss in a challenge coin too...LOL]  Anyway, PM me if this is even possible.
