Title: FL's "Firearms Freedom Act", HB 21, needs your attention tonight.
Post by: Spooner on March 18, 2010, 08:32:41 PM
I just received this, and thought you all would be interested in getting the word out.  Please do!  I apologize if this is not an appropriate forum for this..

HB 21, the Florida House version of the Firearms Freedom Act NEEDS TO BE SCHEDULED FOR A HEARING BY TOMORROW, FRIDAY MARCH 19 or the bill will not even be voted on this year. This bill currently has 43 Sponsors & Co-Sponsors.
The Bill needs to be heard in The Civil Justice & Courts Policy Committee if it is to have any chance to advance further in the process. The Chairman of the Committee is Representative Carl Domino, whose House District (83) includes much or all of Jupiter & Palm Beach Gardens. Only the Chairman can schedule a bill for a hearing. [Note: Carl Domino is running in the Republican primary to be the candidate to replace Jeff Atwater in the Florida Senate.]
We need everyone who supports this bill to call Rep. Domino's Tallahassee office (850-488-0302) today or early Friday morning and let his legislative assistant (Sheri Healy) know that it is important that Representative Domino schedule HB 21 for hearing in the The Civil Justice & Courts Policy Committee ASAP. Leave a voice message if Sheri cannot answer the phone in person.
Here are reasons why this bill (HB21) needs to be heard in his committee:
1) The Bill is supported by a large number of citizens, including many people in his House district and in the State Senate district that he would like to represent and by 43 current House members.
2) The bill is important to Florida's economic future by asserting Florida's Constitutionally reserved right to be the exclusive regulator of any any all commerce that takes place entirely within the State of Florida.
3) The bill challenges, directly and indirectly, the Federal government's long time misapplication of the Interstate Commerce clause of Article I, Section 8 (powers delegated to Congress) of the United States Constitution, which (as Judge Andrew Napolitano has explained) instructs Congress to make interstate commerce FLOW WITHOUT HINDRANCE (which was the meaning of the word "regulate" at the time that the Constitution was written) rather than, as the Congress has used it for many years, to restrict and constrain interstate commerce in every way imaginable.

er...

could you post a text of the bill?!?!?!

or at least a well-sourced synopsis of what it is and what it does...

I get that it sets state's rights against congress, but your post doesn't detail how that happens...

in addition, you need people to contact their OWN representatives re:this bill!

thx!

ThaiFighter,

You haven't been paying attention.  It's a clone of the bill introduced and/or passed in 26 other states.

It is perfectly acceptable to contact the Chairman of the Committee and ask that the bill be voted out of committee.

They should also contact their own reps and urge them to contact the chairman as well.

Basically - any firearm/firearm accessory made in FL and that stays in FL is exempt from Fed control via the interstate commerce clause as it is entirely an intrastate product.

I call Rep Carl Domino's office and was informed that his office phone has been tied up with callers on this very subject.  O0

I also called Charles VanZant's office, my local rep, and asked for his support of this bill.

He has been to an AS and supports what we are all about.

Amen!  I sure haven't!   In the wake of Raich V Gonzales, I turned my attention to more productive things...
