Anyone interested in staffing some gun shows to promote Appleseed? :~
Posterboy has set up a gun show in Maumee for April 10-11.
I am almost 99% positive I'll have a gun show at Hara Arena in Dayton on Feb 27-28.
Post in this thread if you can help at those or if you help can set up a gun show near another Ohio shoot location.
I can help with the Hara gun show on Feb 27-28. Do you already have displays, content, preparations made? Or, is that something that should be looking into?
I have a very nice Appleseed banner, Rev War flag set, targets, brochures, display rifles (LTR, M1A, AR) === gliming, it might be nice to bring your Garand to talk up CMP ===
I'm thinking we'll want to print up a bunch of your OH specific fliers, gliming. My wife said she'll make up a very nice photo display from various shoots, and I'll have a couple laptops showing our current location map and playing some Youtube videos that have turned out great.
Anything else we should bring?
I am in for any on dates I am not at a shoot or at work. Wife's permission permitting.
Maybe Mrs. DryFire could come along. Gun show attendees would be much happier talking to her than our ugly mugs. :)

Here are some things I was thinking:
1) Hang up some of our targets--an AQT and a redcoat. It's visual and helps people know what they might be shooting at.
2) Hang up the extremely reduced 10' target. Then place a mark of tape on the floor so people know what size the targets will be when they get to range. I really think that makes a great impression.
3) Maybe some instructional materials like Fred's rifleman guide, etc.
4) Maybe a "how to get prepared / what to bring" checklist?
When I've been at booth duty before, I think it helps to have as many "props" and things to engage people with and not simply hand out things (not that you were suggesting that). More interaction and engaging content is always good.
Will we have table(s) and/or back drop(s)?
Can we get authorization to reprint certain articles? I'm thinking the latest blog entry from Massad Ayoob would be great! Maybe there are others?
What can we say or print about Ft Stewart and WSMR? I'm not necessarily thinking it needs an answer here; but, just that we know as booth staffers what can be said.
Excellent stuff, gliming. May not get all the answers here tonight, but this night is all about brainstorming... so we can come back to it!
I have always liked the idea of hanging up some squares and an AQT on someone else's table 25ish meters away. So when some good ol' boy says, "I already know how to shoot", we can show him what we're talking about.
Well, as far as that goes... maybe (if there's space) lay down a shooting mat in front of the table and have one of us demonstrate SHF w/ a dummy rifle and a laser pointer. Assuming that passerbys don't trip over us, it might draw more over.
MeanStreaker, count me in for helping out at the Hara Goodman's show. It's been a long, lonely winter without any Appleseed. Can't wait to hit the trail when it warms back up. I miss y'all.
MeanStreaker,
We have an event called KidsFest in Athens in the spring. Couldn' t put any demo rifles out but we could do info and come up with something with targets. Might be good to get our young IITs in as they would relate well with age group.

I believe Lima will still be doing the Gun Show circuit the first weekend of march, we could set something up for that weekend....
That's great Julia, I put it on the list of "to dos". :)
Steamer, posterboy is doing a gun show in your neck of the woods on April 10-11 and I'm sure he could use your help if you're available.
The two Lima dates we got are Aug 14-15 and Oct 2-3. I'd love to do every gun show possible, but since we have very limited resources and want to fight burn out as best as possible, I think we need to stick to doing gun shows that aren't further than a couple months out from an event. I've worked a lot of gun shows before and I bet that if we talk to someone in March, they'll forget all about it by the time Aug rolls around. I definitely want to set up a gun show in the Lima area this summer though. June? July?
Feel free to speak up if anyone thinks that's the wrong approach. And of course, if you still want to set up a gun show booth for Lima in March, I'll gladly give you my supplies and brochures and help you make it happen!
IIRC the gun shows in Lima taper off in the warmer months to make way for the fishing, marine, auto parts, and flea markets... I will look into it more, but I am thinking that April or May might be the last one before it gets cold again...

None that I am aware of... With that date just two weeks away from the 4/17-18 shoot I know I can be able to commit to one day... as the date gets closer I will know for sure if I have the whole weekend available
Would anybody else be available/willing to work that gun show with Steamer that weekend? I probably won't be able to as I am hoping to get a shoot scheduled that weekend just west of Columbus. I'll find out tonight if that's going to happen or not as I'm going to meet with them.
I'm pretty sure there's a gun show in Athens every year in an old K-Mart that shut down a few years back. I know this location is pretty close to many ASers around here. The show is not very big, but it's an idea for those who don't want to travel too far away to man an AS booth. Just an idea.
