Title: Virtual Muster Night, Tuesday Feb. 2nd, Everyone come a-runnin'!
Post by: Stimey on January 28, 2010, 10:47:00 AM
In case you haven't heard about this, I am forwarding this announcement to all North Carolina Appleseeders.  This event will take place next Tuesday night at 8-10pm EST.  What we are asking is that each of you log on to the forum during that time and log on to the Appleseed Radio Show during the same time period.  Register and log on at the link below:

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/appleseedradio

You can listen live to the show and participate in a live chat with Appleseeders from all over the country.  This will be a virtual online national conference meeting for planning our 2010 season.  This is a don't miss opportunity.  Come one, come all!

Virtual Muster Night: A Call To Everone

Hello and welcome to each of you!  If you are reading this it is because you are a member of the Appleseed Project and are being contacted as such.

In just over one week, the Appleseed Project will be hosing an event called Virtual Muster Night.  It is designed to help us all rejuvenate ourselves to our joint purpose, reconnected to our state programs, and reconnected to each other.

The Virtual Muster Night event is Feb. 2nd from 7pm-9pm Central.  The event will be both on the forum and on Scout's Rifleman Radio Show at the same time.  We are asking that each and every one of you come to the forum, sign in to the Virtual Muster Night Subforum and then head over to your state forums.  Once there you can find all the others from your state, check on projects that are happening and check in briefly with your State Coordinator and look at the calendar of shoots.  Sign up for a few.

Then get ready to have some fun.

Now, normally the Appleseed Project is all work and no play, but this night will be a bit different.  For one night only, there will be special Virtual Muster Night only threads written by the Master Instructors on cool topics and open for Q&A.  Fred himself is expected on the Radio Show in order to take calls and questions!

Radio Show?! Yes, the Rifleman Radio Show will be running and we hope many will come on to report in on the forum mustering activities.  Scout will be there along with many others in the chat room.  If any of you have missed the the weekly Radio Show, this is your chance to check it out and be a part of it.

So, please, get ready to muster up.  Get ready to have an "Appleseed Revival" for each of us who can use it.  Get ready to be a part of an event that will go into the Appleseed history books.  And get ready to take your place in the success of this year of record breaking growth.

Be warned - the special forum, the special threads, the VM Night Radio Show itself will only last for those two hours, then they will lock and history will be closed.  Do not come late or you will miss out and only be able to read what others did!

As you know, we ask participants at every Appleseed how many could they muster on short notice.  1000? 100? 10?  This is our night to ask that question of ourselves, our states, and of our national program: "How many can WE muster?"

Mark you calendar, and make some time for the night even if it is just 15 minutes.  Help spread the word that the muster bell is to be rung and let's make this a big night.  Our forum has never had over 340 members on it at once and that is a small portion of our membership.  Let's see if we can break 1000!

Let's make real work of it.

Thank You & See you on the "Virtual Green",
Techres & Scout

Tareece, I am updating all our forum records and found your name.  That's why you never got anything until today.

The chatroom is at www.blogtalkradio.com/appleseedradio

I have no prejudice toward warrifles.com at this time.  I spot checked their forums and nothing stands out as particularly offensive to me.  You've been to an Appleseed, right?  Then you know what our mission is, and what we feel is important.  Do you feel that your beliefs place you in violation of our mission?  That's a question only you can answer.  For my own part, the only real disqualifier from our ranks is that one advocates a violent overthrow of the government by force of arms.  If warrifles.com or you yourself promote or advocate this agenda, then you will not be welcome here.  If not, come on down!  I will not turn away a helpful soul, as long as his heart is pure and his motives are noble and in keeping with the highest ideals of the original foundations of our country AND its system of government.  We can debate the finer points, but this is who we are.

Wylde, 1shot, glad you showed up.  As I said, I've been updating NC's records and I am glad to have made contact with you.  To all, I would like to set up the meeting this weekend.

1.  Are you available for a mid-morning rally at either the gun show in Greensboro or the warehouse in Kernersville?  State your preference.

2.  Will weather be an issue with regard to your attendance?

The morning will be spent manning a table at the gun show and packing shoot boxes at the warehouse for our April17-18 shoots.

The meeting will be at the warehouse in Kernersville after lunch.

post your thoughts!

Is there a fee other than parking (admission to work??)
  I can do either..

2.  Will weather be an issue with regard to your attendance?
'Fraid so...

Would this be on the weekends like a Saturday?? (stupid question?)

Hi, Steve!

Should have mentioned that time thing.  I'll be at the warehouse by 0830 or so, gun show starts at 0900.  I'm going to be very flexible due to the weather and the distances folks will be traveling.

Will we have to pay to get in?  Depends on our status.  Fred says we have a table, so we should be listed as vendors and not charged.

Yes, the meeting will be on this Saturday the 6th.

I'm here.  I should be at the gun show in GSO Saturday morning if the weather doesn't make it impossible.  I was wondering if we were working the show with the meeting planned for Saturday...

Very good question, and I'm glad you're here.  The answer is, I'm not sure yet.  The gun show is Fred's suggestion, and he hasn't given me any guidance, so I will make the decision on the fly.  For now, let's plan on sending a crew to both places in the morning, rally at a restaurant for lunch, then all head to the warehouse for the meeting.  I would like to keep a table manned at the show throughout the day, but I don't know how to compromise this with the meeting.  We may have to rotate out, or just forget the show in the afternoon.  Fred, if you're watching this thread, weigh in on this, OK?

Stimey,

This weekend won't work for me.  I've been living in a camper near Columbia, SC since last March.  Gotta go where the work is...

I only get back to NC one weekend every month or so.

I didn't tell you this before, but Scout asked me last week on the air how many North Carolinians would meet muster tonight.  I said we'd have at least a dozen.  With Bonden, hawkeye, and Law Man, we're at 13!  I am so encouraged by everyone's participation!

Ok, so the meeting is on for Saturday morning.  Need a crew to go to the gun show in Greensboro and another to go to the warehouse (somebody list the directions to both places, OK?).  Does anyone want to skip the meeting and work the show?

What is the time line like? will we be at the show for the entire day (8-10 hrs)?

Would it be better to work in shifts?

I would be ok for both events

No.1 we need to find out when we need to be at the show.
No.2 We need to find out cost (if any)
No.3 We need to find out how many will guarantee staffing...
No 4 we need to find out if GBO COL. might reschedule...and HOW they will let vendors know...
No.5 We need to find out how to communicate with all volunteers and perhaps carpool if we can link up decently....
No.6 contact info for all...and a call tree perhaps...

1.  0900 or as close as possible.
2.  Shouldn't be a fee, but I don't know.  Fred does, and he'll pass that info later.
3.  ?  Do you mean how many instructors will commit to working the show?  That won't be a problem.
4.  Let's leave that problem until it's a confirmed problem.  Last I heard, show's still on.
5. and 6.  I have contact info for many of you.  However, I treat that as confidential.  There is a carpooling board in another part of the forum, and you can post carpool requests there.

Read over the thread, it'll catch you up.  Can you make the meeting Saturday?  If so, let me know if you want to pack boxes or work the show.

Never mind.  I just saw your post on the other thread.  I'll come to GM if I don't see you earlier.

Good idea, Tareece.  Who would like to set a rally point near the show?  I would, but I don't know where it is.

I know the area around the GSO Coliseum pretty well.  I'm assuming everyone will either be coming towards the show on either 40E or 40W.  If you take the High Point Road exit and head towards the coliseum, there is a Burger King just up the block on the right.  It's probably about a mile from there to the coliseum (would allow us to meet up without fighting gun show traffic till we find each other).  There are other places that are a little closer, but they're not popping into my 49-year-old mind at present.  Thoughts??

Ithere is a Burger King just up the block on the right.  It's probably about a mile from there to the coliseum (would allow us to meet up without fighting gun show traffic till we find each other).  There are other places that are a little closer, but they're not popping into my 49-year-old mind at present.  Thoughts??

Sounds just right.... 8 to 8:25 to allow for stragglers or late arrivals???

If you count Fred, we're at 20, so we're doing really well.  I'm OK with being counted twice, if you think Matt and me are worth it!

Yeah, y'all are worth counting twice.

Yeah, let's do that.  We'll plan to leave BK at 8:30 and get to the show and in around 8:45, since we should be in before the "customers" arrive.

Or do we need to be earlier to set up.  Is someone setting up Friday afternoon/evening??

That's a question for Fred, I'll make sure he sees this and fills us in.

Sorry I couldn't make it in last night, dial up connection at home last night would not connect or stay connect for more than a few moments if it managed to connect... :wb:
I think all the moisture was screwing with the lines. Haven't had that problem in while.  Should of have worked late last night... !@#)

OK, folks, it's time for the rundown on Virtual Muster night, which occurred last night from 8-10 pm.  Here's the list of attendees:

Red Hats:  Fred, Stimey, txpirate, hawkeye, Law Man
IIT's:  MCKNBRD, Bonden, Karl2500, steves4570, M1NC, neilr, FourIze, Iron Pony
Forum members:  checksix, Carolina Gal, Wylde Bill, Tareece, Hawk_308, 1shot, paintballdude902

1.  We have 10 Red Hats.  Five showed up, and several others would have if not for work/school commitments.  Good showing.

2.  Of our 11 IIT's, 8 checked on the forum.  Outstanding!

3.  As a result of this muster, I was able to make contact with seven new members, five of them for the first time.  I was also very pleased to learn that one's recent absence from the forum was due to his state senatorial campaign!  For all of you in NC Senate District 7, which includes Franklin County, Granville County, Vance County, and Warren County, please be aware that there is an Appleseeder on the ballot, and his name is Glen Bradley.  He wants us to know that he wrote the NC version of the Firearms Freedom Act, and won it sponsorship in the House from Rep David Lewis.  For all of you in this district, I would like to challenge you to inspect Mr. Bradley's record.  As State Coordinator for Appleseed, I am barred from granting endorsements to any political party or candidate.  However, I can say that I personally am envious of those of you who will have the privilege, as well as the civic responsibility, of voting in the NC Senate District 7 election this year.

The rest of the night was spent hashing out the plans for this Saturday's Instructor meeting.  Currently, I have the following verbal commitments to attend:  Fred, 7.62BBQ, Stimey, txpirate, hawkeye, Law Man, the Kid, len1459, P shooter, Red Wolf, Karl2500, steves4570, HEAVY-CAV, bulkhead, Bonden, FourIze, Tareece, and our Regional Coordinator, VAshooter.  Due to the expected immoderate weather, however, I will not be offended in any way by those who can't make it.  For the purposes of this update, I will proceed as if everyone still plans to show up.

During the morning on Saturday, we will split our numbers to accomplish two tasks.  The first group will meet at the Burger King near the GSO Coliseum in Greensboro to man a table at the gun show that will be held there this weekend.  The Burger King is just off the High Point Road exit from I-40, and all volunteers for the show should arrive betwee 8:00am and 8:30am.  This group will promote the Appleseed Program in general and the February shoots at Yanceyville and Ramseur in particular.  Appleseed attire is strongly encouraged, whether it be T-shirts, hoodies, polos, caps, whatever.  This group will stay at the show until lunchtime, when it will depart the show for an as yet to be determined lunch site.  So far, the first group will include Fred, Bonden, FourIze, and Tareece.

The second group will muster up at a warehouse in Kernersville to pack shoot boxes for our nationwide April 17-18 shoots.  This group will muster around 8:30am and pack boxes until lunchtime, when they will link up at the lunch site with the first group.  This group will include Stimey, txpirate, bulkhead, and steves4570.

The lunch will be a time of meeting each other, debriefing about the show, etc.  After the lunch is concluded, we will all proceed to the warehouse for the meeting.  Everybody needs to bring a chair or two; the warehouse has plenty of floor space, but no furniture.  We will cover such topics as our future expansion plans, IIT development and promotion, event promotion, and whatever else needs addressing.  We will also have promotional literature available for distribution.  Expect this meeting to last for a couple of hours.

Now, the last item to consider is staffing the show.  Right now, I only have plans to staff the show on Saturday morning, but I am open to suggestions as to how we could staff it all weekend.  We could run it in shifts on Saturday afternoon by splitting off during the meeting, but that would not be my first option.  Likewise, we could staff it on Sunday if people were willing to do that, just as we could send a crew to the warehouse to pack more boxes on Sunday.  I'd like some suggestions on this.

That's the big plan so far.  One last item.  My NC Master Member's List now has 48 names on it.  Fellow North Carolinians, we have got some things to be proud of!  Everybody give me a shout back on your availability this weekend if you haven't yet (or if plans have changed), and whether you want to work the show or the warehouse.  Also, I am taking any requests on discussion topics for the meeting.

See you all Saturday!
