What services and portable hand-held devices are recommended for communicating from the WV boonies in particular, and the eastern boonies in general?

Blackberry? Phone? Other?

What telecom companies would you recommend?

What should one look for?

I've been displeased with Cell One and US Cellular. Sprint also does some horrid things. Good luck.
