Title: More M1 Garands and Carbines coming back to US Shores
Post by: CortJestir on September 25, 2009, 10:23:51 AM
Looks like we're getting some more M1 Garands and M1 Carbines, courtesy of South Korea.

South Korea to sell 108,000 Garand Rifles to US Gun Collectors (http://www.ammoland.com/2009/09/23/south-korea-to-sell-108000-garand-rifles-to-us-gun-collectors).

howdy

Yeah, I saw that. Orest says CMP will not be privy to either the arms or the alleged ammo...

If we are talking Blue Sky quality, I heard those had some ratty barrels.  I never looked at one on purpose, but I may have seen one. Didn't get Garanditis until 2005

I'm not sure we can feed what we have here now. They have suspended ammo sales for the carbines and .22 cal until further notice...

I saw that too....when did they lift the ban on importing Lend-Lease rifles & carbines? I saw a whole warehouse full of Garands and Carbines when I was in Germany, inexpensive too.  Just couldn't import them into the US.

Compared to the previous lot of Korean imports the CMP rifles are "golden".

I'd wait till some reviews start coming in, or have some spare parts on hand.

The cost of the spare parts may make the Korean imports more costly than the CMP rifles.

Just something to consider.

IF I find an IH that has a good receiver I don't care about any other part on the rifle, I'll replace them with parts from one of my CMP Garands.

Can you tell I'm missing an IH from my collection?

There is no mention in the linked article how or when they will be sold.

Am I correct to assume that these will not be offered by CMP?

Will they be wholesaled to the the gun industry or auctioned on gunbroker or dumped at gun shows?

Any ideas?

The last batch that came in went to importers and were sold through Century Arms, SOG, etc.....  I imagine it will be the same this time, if the US allows the importation.
