Another great shoot at Piru in the bag. We had one Rifleman who bought a crew of new shooters to his first AS requiring us to rustle up 8 LTRs on Saturday. On Sunday he shot his Rifleman score with a borrowed LTR. His comments on how to get there, "Listen to the instructors... they break you down to get rid of all your old habits and ways and then build you up again to shoot Rifleman" Well done Jason.
We also had Dano on this his first AS after last weeks Piru IBC returning and completing his IIT3 requirements. Congratulations Dano and thanks once again for all your help out here in Piru.
We also had a larger contingent than we've seen lately shooting center fire. Some SKSes, ARs, M1A scout (with a booming CA legal muzzle break) lots of mini-14s.
Sunday, all our centerfire shooters returned and we had more time than usual reviewing on squares to get those group sizes down, concentrating on building solid positions, really using the sling for support to relax into it for NPOA, etc. Then we started the AQT grind. We shot the stars for trusting NPOA and a cadence building volley fire exercise.
The law of diminishing returns and the punishment of the centerfire meant we had to end up on our final redcoat and then share some words of wisdom from the founders before parting after another great weekend among Riflemen.
Don't forget folks to look into coming to the Rifleman Boot Camp at Piru in November (8-15th).
Cheers
Phil
Congratulations, Jason on your RM score.
Thanks V
And congratulations Dano on your IIT3 O0
As usual, V ran an excellent Appleseed. Very well organized, probably one of the best I have shot/participated at.
Another great shoot with very little wind (for Piru) and great conditions. Congratulations Jason on making Rifleman!
My high point of the weekend.
A shooter Sunday morning telling us about his conversation with the better half Sat evening. He said he came for the shooting and didn't know about the history portion of our events, enjoyed it but hey its about the shooting right? His wife asks about things went and he found himself telling her all the stories he'd heard in the history. Forgot to mention the shooting...
Yeah, right... its all about the shooting...
That made my weekend, too.

I was a first time shooter there and must say you guys are doing things right. Lots of info thrown at a person all at once but the instructors knew repetition is the key to the details. I'll know how to go practice now and get better, something I never learned being in the NRA since I was 8. Always thought a sling was for carrying the gun. ::)
The first day was tough but the second day was a lot easier. I was shooting an SKS, whuch was the wrong gun to bring to the shoot the first time. An instructor kindly loaned me a 22 which actually allowed me to practice shooting. Sure hope I didn't make too much work for him cleaning it.
One piece of advice, tell shooters to bring a 22 the first time if they have one. It's hard to shoot and learn with the bigger guns. Iron sight 22's pretty much shoot straight no matter what you do to them and it's a lot easier to get them sighted in right away.
Great shoot, great instructors and great time. I'll practice and come again. Thanks for all your hard work.
That and when V held up the riflemans patch and orange hat and asked "what is missing here?". There were two people that answred "ME".

For a shooter that showed as much dedication and effort as both of you SKS shooters, I'd clean 10 rifles. You both will be riflemen soon.
