Title: Problem with Purchasing Surplus Ammo from CMP
Post by: MudSlide on August 24, 2009, 10:43:48 PM
Does the green "Completion of Marksmanship Clinic" certificate qualify me to purchase surplus ammo at the CMP store?
The gentleman at the counter said that the green certificate was not a proof of CMP club affiliation.
The certificate shows the CMP Club #.  What more is needed?
BTW, anyone can purchase commercial ammo from CMP, but if you want surplus ammo, you have to meet 3 requirements: 1) US citizen & age, 2) proof of CMP club affiliate, and 3) proof of participation in marksmanship activity.

The green certificate is number 3, proof of participation in marksmanship activity.

You need number 2. http://www.appleseedinfo.org/join_rwva.htm

I believe that if you are a military veteran that requirement is waived, the last time I was hit with the requirement to show proof of current club membership I sent them a copy of my retired military ID and was informed that I had no further requirement to establish a club membership.  Not because I am a retiree but because I am a veteran.  Hope this helps. :)

OK guys, how about #1? Mudslide told me that they wanted to see a piece of ID that said "US Citizen" on it. He had his WV Driver's License and they said that wouldn't work, because it doesn't say "US Citizen" or "Citizen of the USA" on it. What gives? Has anyone purchased surplus ammo from them in-person lately, that can verify this?

I would like to know, since we will be taking a convoy of guys out to the Camp Perry store in the very near future...don't want to show up unprepared.  ++)

http://www.thecmp.org/eligibility.htm

Tells you everything you need to take with you.

Have fun looking through all those rifles.  I found it impossible to visit and not bring one (or more) home.

Two trips, 4 rifles and 3 cases of ammo.

I can't go back, I have enough M1's to last my lifetime and my kids rifles will last them.

Duh! That pretty much answers THAT question!  #)

I plan on one rifle and my legal limit on ammo this trip, but now I hear they could be out of ammo.  >:(
I made a post on the other thread to get confirmation on that one.

Glad to hear you're sittin' pretty with all your goodies, OD!  ;D

Well, I don't "live on a range" like some folks.  That means that like a lot of other instructors, seems like 95% of my range time is walking around a bunch of folks who have rifles in their hands and wondering when the next time will be that I get to shoot one of mine.

At the rate I'm going, my kids will shoot up my ammo some day. @)

My kids will get the brass and the firearms at the rate I'm going. They are learning to reload. CMP is out of HXP after they fill the current orders. They are working on a deal with Federal for M2 type ammo to sell in the stores and on line.

If your group needs anyone who knows the area well, contact me. I'll help you guys get set up with a place to stay and help you find everything you need while you are here. I live about 15 miles from Camp Perry.

Well, we might just take you up on that offer Panama, thanks. I bet the temptation living that close to the CMP becomes overwhelming sometimes! Good thing I don't live that close, my "impulse buying" would probably land me in the "doghouse" most of the time.  >:D  I'll contact you before we make the trip.
