This was the most determined group of Appleseeders I've had the opportunity to be with. Both the shooters and the instructors showed the fortitude that we would hope to see in all Americans.
It was a special pleasure to have a mother and son team on the line to celebrate his birthday, Theresa and Matt are two of the nicest people I've had the pleasure to meet at an Appleseed.
On Saturday shooter Mike (Postal 16) braved the hot sun and helped California meet our goal of 100 Riflemen by scoring a 211, then went on to clear the Redcoat. Mike is a High Power shooter and has a beautiful shooting jacket sporting lots of rockers. I kept wondering if Fred had sent us a ringer. Also on Saturday, Pat was knocking at the door with a 208, followed closely by Matt with a 195, and they weren't done.
On Sunday nature turned up the heat, roasting our shooters on their mats and our shooters responded in kind. Determined not to be left on the outside Matt (DessertRat) pried the door open with a 213. During the next AQT Pat (Nukechaser) kicked in the door with a 223 and followed it up with a 217 for good measure. Our final Rifleman of the day was Eric (M1 06shooter), who earned himself a bit of relief from the heat when he scored a 210 (followed by the commensurate soaking) just as he ran out of ammo (17HMR, and no, we didn't even try to use the 30 cal rule to save him from the soaking).
Not ready to quit, Mike, Pat, and Eric, decided that the Appleseed trail looked like a path they would like to follow and picked up orange hats, becoming our latest IITs.

California now has 103 Riflemen.
As always it's a pleasure to have the instructors at the Dragons Lair for the weekend, I'm already looking forward to our next event.
My thanks to all the shooters, the instructor staff, and especially V for making my first experience as Shoot Boss as painless as possible.
Git 'er dun!!
Pics soon
Wonderful shoot as always at Sacramento!!! Hot, but then it is August...soooooo we should expect it. Don't think anyone gave up due to the heat all day....Truly a group of riflemen in spirit if not all in score.
I really don't think Erik minded too much getting doused, though when told that the tradition could have involved a pond if there was one handy he did seem a bit relieved that we were not near one.
Big thanks to all the instructors for their encouragement and words of wisdom as I work my way along the IIT trail. Learning to get up in front of a group of people and teach them or talk to them can be a bit scary..
Thanks again for the hospitality of the Dragon's Lair. The company was as always wonderful. And the food ain't half bad either..... ;D

Don't let the NRA rockers fool you, the highest was Sharpshooter (NRA Classification)...getting over the hump and earning the Rifleman wouldn't have happened without the Appleseed training and practice! Thanks to the whole crew for their time and energy in this. I look forward to putting the orange hat to good use soon!
Hi, this is 06shooter. Boy was it hot yesturday, and boy am I glad the pond was no where near the range. Scoring 210 right as I ran out of ammo was nice, and I look forward to shooting better at my next appleseed and improving my score.
Thanks to all the instructors...seriously. It was difficult on the all of us out there, and their patience was infinite, their knowledge incredible, and their desire to see us shoot rifleman made me want to do better. So thanks again, and I am proud to have shot rifleman, but honored and privileged to be able to join a group of people such as this.
06shooter (M1)
BaldDragn is too humble. This shoot was his "Shoot Boss In Training" expedition in which he prepared, organized and ran the whole shoot and so it was my great honor to present him with a Green Hat. Rod has stepped up to this program in California and now literally lives on the range. From his first outing at the January shoot Rod has attended every IBC, shoot, gun show, possible. It will be a pleasure to work with him and the other central California shooters to now continue northwards and establish our northern California outpost.
Congratulations BaldDragn
Yay! BD!!
Congrats, Bro!! <:)
And to the other IIT's a job well done....You have some awesome numbers that tell the tale of some hard work & great effort. O0
To our new Riflemen & IIT's, welcome, & Congratulations! You knew the 1st time it wasn't near as "easy as it looked", but you preservered, and persisted, until you got it done. My heartfelt congratulations. And welcome to the team!! ;) O0
Can't wait 'til this next weekend to see some of you guys!!

Hey all,
I want to congratulate all the new riflemen at the sacto. California shoot last weekend, and thank all of those who attended the shoot. It was a fine bunch of Americans that took on the rang and the heat to test their skills at the Appleseed challenge. I also would like to send out a great big (HUZZAH!!), to Bald dragon for getting his green hat and taking central California by storm. He really puts a lot of time and energy into the program and I am proud to get to work with him. For the rest of the instructors it was a pleasure working with you all and I look forward to seeing you again. Jules thank you so much for the hospitality and taking a complete stranger into your home.
