I know this isnt exactly AS related unless we start doing low light instruction (and who wouldn't like that) but I am looking for advice from you good folks. I am setting up a 7.62 as a low light rifle and need to do some further reading on it so any advice or pointers to material on the subkect is appreciated. So far Ive added the XS Tritium Stripe front sight, a high intensity led light to one front rail and a thin strip of white reflective tape between front and rear sights. So far so good but I feel there may be more that could easily be done. Dont or rather cant spend a lot of money on this so exotic stuff like UV laser targeting is out. I can go with either a peep or blade rear sight. Also I know from the military that low light shooting can be a big change from daylight.
So far results are not bad. That front sight stands out well, and the tape really helps keep me oriented, the led light is iffy no good past 30M and just broadcasts my position. Some have mentioned UV lights but never used them so dont know. These changes of course work better in low light but the front sight is fine even in darkness.
Any pointers or suggestions.
This works well on my FAL:

Thought those all had the radioactive gas go inert long ago. Or are you using it without that?
My AR is set up with an XS tritium front with a rectangular post and small dot. Others I know are happy with the front sight you chose.
Regarding lights, I am currently using a TACM III mounted on my standard A2 style handguard. I haven't yet tested it at distance but it works fine for most of my foreseeable uses. The light does slide in the mount under recoil. I'd like to upgrade to something from Surefire but I want to keep both the weight and cost down. A truly well designed LED light should provide the same throw as a Xenon bulb, but not all are well designed.
If you really wanted to spend some money for really good low light capability, take a look at this site:

How about a good scope with a big objective lens, low power and the right coatings on the lens. If you get the right scope you can see things with it that you can't see with the naked eye.
And the SUIT gives me better low light performance than the LER scope on my M1, but not as good as the scope on my M1A.
Yes, you have to be able to see the sights but you also have to see the target.
Wanted to go strictly iron sights (peep, blade, etc) on this rifle. The 308 uses a scout scope I like a lot but a scope/optic can and does get knocked out of zero if say you hit it on a door jam in the dark, it happens. Thanks though did learn a lot about the SUIT I didnt know before.

Sorry for the delay. I've been out of the loop for 3 days.
The iridium in mine finally went belly-up about a year ago. I replaced it with a couple of tridium beads and I'm good for another 10 years or so.
The procedure is well-documented on the web.
My "low light" rig is an AN/PVS-2 Starlight scope mounted on my Fed Ord M14 clone.
The scope I got for around $600 a few years ago.
