Title: Reno, NV July 25 & 26
Post by: James E on July 27, 2009, 11:11:35 AM
First, thanks to the Washoe County Shooting Facility.  I always enjoy traveling to Northern Nevada for Appleseeds, and this was no exception.  It's not the heat, and it's not the wind that I enjoy. It's the Americans that I have the privilege to meet, and spend a weekend with, teaching them rifle marksmanship skills, and sharing some stories about our heritage.

We had six Americans walk-on to our shoot on Saturday morning.  That was quite fortunate, as none of the eight (all free) pre-registered showed up.  And four of the six were under 21, including two sets of fathers and sons.  There is hope for American!

After two days of fast-paced instruction, we had two shooters, Eric (shooting a borrowed 10/22) and Kevin (shooting an M1 Garand), knocking on the door with scores of high 180's to high 190s.  All of our shooters made tremendous improvements in their shooting skills, and have gained the tools to be excellent riflemen.  But more importantly, I believe that each has gained a new appreciation for our American Heritage.

Eric, Kevin, Samuel, Jason, Farley, and Collin, thanks for reminding me yet again that you meet the best people at an Appleseed.

To remember is to honor.

Congratulations on a great shoot!

I don't think there have been too many events where 8/8 pre-reg's were no shows.

Many Thanks to those walk-ons for coming out! It does give one hope.

It was a great shoot as usual!

As always, my favorite moment invloved one of the kids.  With the heat beating down, we did the "Nail the tank" in 2 shooter teams.  The only shooter to hit the star was 11 year old Samuel!  We did it again on Sunday and he hit it again!  His father, Kevin did it with his M1 Garand.  The kids that come to Appleseed's give me hope for the future.  Without question they are the best behaved, least whining, information absorbing kids I meet.

Eric was closing in on Rifleman with a 196, Kevin had a 181 and Jason had a 150, making great strides.  Farley and Collin were our Sat only shooters and made improvements as well.

James E., Desert Dog, Arashi, and Nevada Smith,

Just a quick note to thank you all for the terrific weekend. Sam and I had a great time! Absolutely the best rifle instruction I have received. Thank you as well for the history lessons, stories, and affirmation of the values I try to instill in my children. They are the future of our nation and need to learn the lessons taught by the men who gave us this great country. You haven't seen the last of us, Rifleman next time out!

Kevin

Kevin,

Thanks for coming out and letting me shoot your Garand, just something about shooting a piece of American History O0

Having kids like Sam who are attentive and determined is my favorite part of Appleseed.  I'll be instructing the Gardnerville shoot Aug 29-30, We'd love to see you and Sam there.
