I have an otherwise excellent Savage Mk 2 that fails to extract fairly often. I've tried several different brands of ammo through it, some better than others. Today at the range, after only about 50 rounds every case would stick. I've surfed the web and checked everything I could find. The extractors are assembled on the correct sides, they edges look sharp, it's all been pulled apart and cleaned. What else is there to check?
No personal experience but this (http://www.mdshooters.com/showpost.php?p=124032&postcount=11) was the best I could google so far
Yep this (http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3552516&postcount=25) seems to be a design feature :(
Hence this (http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3550938&postcount=24) suggestion.
Again, just googling for ya bro... no personal experience of this model.
I've got a MkII that's never had ejection problems. If you have already stripped it apart and scrubbed the extractor/ejector combo, then lightly re-lubed, that's about the extent of my advice. Savage has had excellent service for me in the past, might be worth dropping a dime and seeing what they advise. Also, have you thoroughly scrubbed the chamber? A little acetone to remove any wax that might have built up? Is there a ding on the chamber mouth where the firing pin hits during dry-fire? If that's the case, it might be just tight enough to make extraction sticky; a smith with a hone can take the ding out very quickly and pretty cheaply.
Might just be time to consider replacing the extractor/ejector, too.
I earned my Rifleman patch with a Savage Mk II after having missed several months earlier with the same rifle by a mere six points. At that first 'seed, I had a round stand vertically in the mag rather than chamber as it should have. This was on sitting stage and I missed two rounds as a result. I was displeased.
My solution was to manually hold my mag tightly into the mag well with my support hand while shooting. Ever since I started doing that, I have not had the problem repeat itself.
Good luck and safe shooting!
Blessings,
Bill
A friend of mine was having problems with his mk2, savage sent new extractors which were slightly different (improved design maybe) and that did not work, he sent the rifle in to savage and it turned out that he had a burr in his chamber so they're sending a new rifle back to him. I don't know if that's your problem, but it might be something to check, especially if its always had problems....
