I'm saving the incriminating photos.. ;D
I see you guys moved the awnings up to the line for day 2. Wish we would have done that the first day. That heat on Saturday was brutal, and I got a pretty bad sun burn on the back of my legs. Wearing shorts was a big mistake, and I won't do that again.
I would have liked to have gone to day two, but I needed a day off after being out in the sun all day dealing with the scouts from my mom's troop. I'd like to thank the instructors for providing loaner rifles and helping to supervise. I think they had fun, and I might see if some of them want to go again when the weather is cooler.
I also see that you had another rifleman on Sunday. He was really close back in April and just missed it on Saturday, so it's good to see that he got it done yesterday.
I would like to thank everyone for a great time. My son and I had a blast. I will be working hard to earn my rifleman's patch. See you in Aug. or Sept.

We had two on Sunday, afaik. One of them refused to acknowledge it for a few moments, which is why I'm trying to show him the score in pic #7.
wow, this looks like an awesome range! Looks like we made a couple Riflemen last weekend! O0

Even better! I thought he was doing pretty good on Saturday when I glanced at one of his earlier targets. I was hoping to raise my score a bit, but my best score of 165 was about the same as I did in April. I was happy to do that well given the conditions. It's kind of hard to shoot when you are getting burned by the shooting mat and gun after the sun has heated them up. Next time, I'll avoid wearing shorts and bring a towel to put over the rifle.
At least I did a lot better on the standing stage this time out. Now if I could just get the 2nd and 3rd stages down, I'd be in business. Unfortunately, I can't really practice those since I usually have to shoot at an indoor range where you have to stand or use the bench.
Practice at home-Dryfire!
You'll be amazed at the difference it makes.
If it's just the second and third stages holding you back; chances are you're having trouble with transitioning and quickly aquiring you're NPOA.
So work on that.
(and it counts as part of your daily exercise routine. ;) )
Just make sure you don't have ANY ammunition arround.
You'll get it.
Yeah that's my biggest problem. I just can't find it quickly and then I end up rushing and blasting away, especially with the sitting.
I can usually do pretty good with the prone if I take my time, but I still have the occasional miss. I also think it might help to try using a loop sling. I currently have a beat up old leather mauser sling on my 10/22. Can't make a loop with it, and the adjustments are pretty limited. It's always either too tight or too loose. Need to order some 1 1/4" swivels so I can stick one of my web slings on it.
Loop sling is the best.
They often have a couple of sets of 1.25 in. swivles at walmarts arround here. Maybe check that out.
And the slings can be had at an exeptional value at the Appleseed store.
As far as transitions go: Take the extra few seconds to get that good position, then fire the shots in cadence.
One shot every three seconds, leaves you 25 seconds to get your position/npoa on stage three; and 35 on stage four.
You'll be amazed at how quicky it goes; when you focus on making a good(4moa) shot as opposed to a perfect shot.

I actually ordered some at Midway in preparation for the weekend, but I accidentally got the 1" ones. I'm going to need to send them back and order the right size. Probably tack on a bunch of other stuff too so I can take advantage of the July 4th sale.
I posted this in the State forum, but I thought it might be more appropriate here.
Just a note of thanks to all who worked the AS in Oxford this past weekend.
Ben, IMC!!!! Great instruction.
BigShow thanks for the pictures.
Daniel you worked the other end of the line, but thanks for calling the line. (not too fast cuz' it was HOT)
Matt, your experience and encouragment are greatly appreciated.
Bill, thanks for the watermelon!
Tiffanny and Brad thank you for the shade and companionship. And Slick for not complaining about the "Big Gun".
Dad and Cindy, Thank you for all the time you dedicate to creating a Nation of Riflemen. Your respect and encoragement of others is inspiring!
Joe, thank you for providing an excellent place to shoot and for the first aid.
It will be an honour to serve along side you all.

I will be setting up at the gun show here in OKC the weekend of 25-26 July, do you know if there is a banner around anywhere that I could use? I took 5 tables so that I will have one for AS. Let me know if you can.
Thanks

How was it? Really wish I could have made it out since the weather was so good on the weekend. Unfortunately, I was stuck at home waiting for someone that was supposed to come by my house over the weekend. Turns out they didn't show up until Sunday, so I could have made it out on Saturday if I had known they were going to be late.
It was good, but we had a fairly low turnout: about 8 shooters and about 7 instructors! This worked out OK, since we got to have one-on-one instruction later on Saturday. we did a little carding of the sights, and really got to work on some of the little problems each shooter had. This paid off as we made 2 Riflemen Saturday afternoon, one of whom is now an IIT. The weather was great all weekend. Couldn't ask for better shooting weather. We even had a little shower blow in around noon Saturday for a few minutes... just long enough to cool things off! Hopefully we'll see you at the next Oxford shoot ksguy... also, there are plans underway to have a one-day Mini shoot in Pawnee, OK, which ought to be less than 2 hours from Wichita.
I might head down for that. I also see that they added one about an hour east of wichita in a couple weeks too. That one is about the same driving distance for me as going down to Oxford.
