I wanted to post an AAR for this in case any Instructors are hesitant to "waste time" with unofficial mini events.
With the help of DryFire, basically a one-day Appleseed was held at Miamisburg, OH on June 6. We went 8:30-5:00, covered all points of instruction, told all of the history, and shot one AQT before calling it a day.
There were ten shooters on the line. I know that every one of them would not have signed up for a full weekend's event for various reasons, but we got them out there for a day. That's ten more people in my neck of the woods, most of them that I know very well, that now possess the skills to teach themselves to shoot 4 MOA, and the knowledge of how and why our Revolutionary War began. I bet quite a few of them will join us at an official Appleseed in the future.
I call that a success. O0
As Instructors, when planning out your schedule, make sure to include a couple one-day events for those fence-sitters that think they can't commit to a full weekend. Those Mini events can pay big dividends.
MeanStreaker, I am happy to hear that this was a success. You also make a valid point about doing some one day Appleseeds because I know some people who say that probably can't make it to two days, but I bet they would do a one day. Most of them are probably saying they don't want to do it for two days but once they have gone through a one day I bet they will change their minds. I am going to look into that and hopefully I can set one up here in WI.
This is also a good way to build rapport with the range/club/land owner. USAFE7RET has worked hard at the Cloverdale, IN club. Scheduled in some minis, the minis are now getting converted to full 2 day Appleseeds.
