Puryear is my home club. Only seven shooters showed up, so another local club member, and IIT, Twoglock, and myself, were sufficient to handle the instruction at the event. A father and his young son had to leave early Saturday afternoon, and another had to leave somewhat later. Three returned Sunday, but one of them had to leave mid-afternoon. All enjoyed the event and were appreciative of our efforts. Of course we were disappointed at the low turn out. We were also chagrined that no riflemen were made. This was a surprise, as some of the shooters did well on the introductory targets, but could not quite handle the AQTs. There was a 208 score, and a couple in the mid-180s. We could have shot longer, but they were tired and had reached their limit. However most of the shooters were determined to return and earn their rifleman patches.
One of the shooters revealed a personal story which illustrates, as we know, why many shooters fail to come to an AS. When he told one of his fellow shooters back home that he was planning to attend our AS, his friend told our shooter that he was really good with a rifle and didn't need this instruction. Our shooter couldn't wait to get back home and tell his friend that he was WRONG!
