Title: Tech Sites TSR200 Versus TSR100 for 10/22
Post by: Bob Womack on May 28, 2009, 03:58:35 PM
Hi, folks!  I've purchased a 10/22 carbine (18.5") because none of the Wallymarts around me have the 22" Wally special.  I'm putting together my LTR and am considering the two models of Tech Sites for the 10/22.  I've been searching the forum for an answer to this question and haven't found it.  I already own an Olympic Arms AR-15 Carbine that has A1 sights, so I know the difference between the A1 and A2 sights.  I've seen here that some have experienced running out of front sight travel when initially zeroing their TSR200 (A2) sights because of the higher rear base.

So:

1.  Is there a preference between the 100 and 200 in the spec for the LTR or a standard?
2.  Is there a profound loss of utility in going with the 100 instead of the 200?
3.  Is the front sight travel a widespread problem?
4.  Gimme your impressions...

Bob

I have a 1970's Deluxe model 10/22 with the 18 or 18.5 inch barrel. I had issues with the front sight being too short. The TSR-200 now comes with the taller NM front sight. I bought this separately to solve my issues. I have no experience with the 100, so I can't comment on it. But with the addition of the NM front sight I am very happy with the 200.

Most of us use the TSR 100.

I have 4 of them.

You won't need the adjustable elevation on the rear sight for most Appleseed use, especailly at 25 meters.

EEL here,

I have a thread on the Tech sights in steal and deals.  We get a bit better pricing than going to Tech direct.  I sell a bunch of both the 100 and the 200.  That said, Nickle is correct.  Usually, you don't need to use elevation on the rear as you do most shooting at 25 meters.  However...some rifles, using certain ammo, need to have the front post jacked sooooo far up that it wobbles.

The only answer is either jack up the rear (TSR200) or get a taller front as previously stated.  Once set, you probably won't have to adjust it again....unless the LTR might be used as a loaner.  Then all bets are off.

If I can be of assistance with your order....PM me.

One of the things I like about the TSR200 is the 5 vertical white stripes between the 5 detente notches on the rear elevation wheel.  I mark them with 5 different colors.  Then, if you want to make elevation adjustments for distance or various ammo brands, you can easily keep records and dial it in.  If you will be using the Rapidex knob for windage, then you won't need to carry (or find or lose) the sight adjustment tool (but you will need a something to turn the rear elevation wheel).

The new front posts are not a problem.  I dial the front post down until the top of the wheel base is about even with the detente nub/pin, and leave it there.

I have the 200 variation on my LTR. I like to split up the elevation adjustments between the front and rear sights. Like EEL said if the front sight is so far up that it wobbles it's not helping anyone.

I have a little experience in this, I once spent an entire Sunday shooting with a loose front sight. Couldn't blame anyone but myself however, I installed the sight, it was my first attempt at this. J Papineau fixed it for me in Racine and here I am today an Orange hat. Thanks again Pappi!

Aprox 1/8 at 20 yards, 5/8 at 100.
