The Central Texas crew is proud to announce the after action report for the first-ever public Project Appleseed pistol event at the glamorous Waco (China Spring), TX range!
"Do an event in late September" we thought. "It will be cool" we thought.
Yeah.
Right.
The shoot boss' handy-dandy portable outdoor thermometer arrived with a dead battery. In retrospect, this may have been a sign from above: "Don't ask." Nevertheless ask we did – and ScottInTX, with his very own oddly-similar outdoor thermometer, was able to get a read of 108 degrees. Both days. In the shade.
Nevertheless, ten brave souls entered to learn about History, Heritage and Pistol Marksmanship. Two of whom had never before been to a Project Appleseed event of any type – Welcome!!!!
Under the welcome shadow of some pop-up canopies, day 01 came through and with a smile on their face everyone learned about pistol techniques – proper grip, pressure, stance, reloads and more. Fortunately the range also includes an air-conditioned club house that was made available for a lovely lunch break.
Day 02 resumed with all sorts of drills and PQTs to test and to train. Ball and Dummy, followed gby In Battery / Out of Battery exercises, really helped hone those skills for the last stage of the PQT. The biggest highlight may just be the ladies showing the guys how it's done, clearing the Big Dot / Little Dot target in under a minute. On the very last PQT of the day we welcomed one new Pistoleer, and everyone walked away with a Caliente Seed patch.
Thank you all for your smiles throughout a toasty weekend. From what we're told – either everyone had fun AND learned something, OR you're just lying to make me feel better. But given the temperature – I'm pretty sure everyone had a great time.
It's exciting to see some of the same names signed up for next month's Known Distance event in (far) North Texas. We'll see you soon – and for everyone else, on behalf of the local crew – thank you for making this a success and we hope to see you all again soon!
Do all the instructors and previous pistoleers make a line that all the students have to run down when y'all start??
That Good ole Appleseed Line?
Wear tee shirts with the year you shot Pistoleer on them?
Might be a fun tradition LOL.
I have nearly every t-shirt from the last decade.
