Title: Griffin, GA AAR - Sept 5-6, 2026
Post by: UpACreek on September 10, 2026, 04:37:38 PM
What a nice weekend at the Griffin Gun Club.  We had 7 people sign up, but in the end, just 2 could make it.  We were ready.  We had SIX volunteers, plus one honoree that may as well be a volunteer(subtle hint). The weather was a bit on the warmer side, but manageable with Mechanic and Lacey's awesome fans and Patti's cooling towels.  Patti, our newest Applecore volunteer, wasted no time getting everyone signed in, new t-shirts in hand and ready to go.  It's been a couple of years since GA has had an Applecore volunteer.  They are worth their weight in ammo.  She RSO'd and redirected fans all weekend.  Mechanic started us off with a worthy rendition of the First Strike.  After that Micheal got quite a bit of new coaching while Jared, a return Appleseeder, knocked a few cobwebs off his fundamentals.  Lacey, our honorary Appleseed volunteer, shot fantastically every time.  By the end of Saturday, I'd covered the other Strikes and we all covered the basics.  Both shooters had shown great improvement.

Sunday morning rolled around and we lost Michael and Lacey.  The call of dove hunting was too tempting.  We gained another volunteer though.  We put Centimeter right to work with some review and a Dangerous Old Man story.    BDupree10 was a welcome addition as well, telling his own Dangerous Young Woman story (Betty Zane).  With so many volunteers, a few took us up on the offer to shoot.  After lunch and the discussion about Known Distance, we put everything into practice out to 100 yards.  We made our adjustments after just one string of fire, verified, and then had a good-natured competition on some steel.  I'm quite proud of Jared and his AR hitting 4 out of 5 hits on the 6 inch steel target.  Nice shooting!  Yankee Davey's sub 2MOA group on the paper was pretty awesome too!  We came back to the 25yard line for just one more AQT.  Wouldn't you know, it was the best one yet for everybody despite a whole weekend of 110° heat index both days.  We finished up with 4 shooting the Hits Count target.  Centimeter cleared his target, 2 others hit all 3 hits in the 400 target, while 1 got all 3 in the 300 yard target.  All in all a low shooter turnout, but great Appleseed camaraderie.  I hope we'll see more in Griffin next time.  Until then, keep up the perfect practice.

What a great group.  The center one isn't terrible, but that top left group has 4 touching!

Lacey in prone - she's got this down pat.  Her groups are almost always touching.

Bdupree10 gets a welcome baptism with a 210!  Thank you for letting me dump the whole bottle.  I live for this score.   ;D

I can't wait until it isn't a thousand degrees outside, so I can get more involved. This looks like it was a lot of fun.
