Title: Camp Ethan Allen, VT Known Distance 29-30 Aug 2026
Post by: MattNH on August 31, 2026, 12:41:37 PM
Camp Ethan Allen Firing Range nestled in the Green Mountains outside of Burlington, VT is as picturesque as it gets. It is a beautiful facility and ideal for our KD events. Thank you to the Vermont State Rifle & Pistol Association (VSRPA) and the Vermont Army National Guard (VTANG) for hosting us on Range 4-1. The weather cooperated and we were sunny and 75 for Saturday, overcast Sunday with a light rain closing us out.

We began Saturday with some instruction and the safety brief under the pavilion. We then moved to 250 and made the attempt to become Morgan's Rifleman.  Congratulations to Ryan G. of NY for hitting the shingle.

The 8 shooters than moved to 100 yards and we started our sighters and IMC.  GMB74 brought his Garand, Alex C. was shooting a M1A, while the rest had their ARs. Moving back the shooters developed their come ups and when we finished at 400 we had three new KD Riflemen.  Congratulations to Yankee Peas of PA, Range Dog of VT, and Ryan G. of NY for qualifying. At lunch we heard the story of the Battle of Alamence. We had time for a second AQT and the same three did it again, this time with Yankee Peas of PA scoring a Distinguished 49.

Left to Right: Ryan G. of NY (*standing), Gavin L. of CT, James M. of VT, MattNH of NH, Yankee Peas of PA, Brent1775 of NH, Alex C. of VT, Range Dog of VT

We continued shooting AQTs.  T. Wolf told an amazing story of Ethan Allen's taking of Ticonderoga, which was so appropriate given that we were in the Green Mountains at Camp Ethan Allen.  mmriate continued with the story of King's Mountain.

By the time we were finished we had another four new KD Riflemen with an additional re-qualification. Ryan G. (48) and Range Dog (49) added distinguished scores.  Congratulations to James M for becoming a Distinguished KD Rifleman with a 49.  Congratulations to mmriate and Brent1775 for earning their KD tabs. Even the shoot boss got to re-qualify. Lastly, congratulations to Alex C. for becoming a KD Rifleman at his first Appleseed.

Thank you to Range Dog for being our local boots on the ground and facilitating the target line set up with target numbers, backers and being the advocate for Project Appleseed with the VSRPA.  Thank you to T. Wolf for making the trip, his instruction, his telling of Ethan Allen, and diligence calling the line.

Finally, we had a generously donated watch to give away at the event.  Robert Valli of Outcast Watch provided a Gen 2 Shooting Watch with Rangefinder. Link to Shooting Watch (https://outcastwatch.com/products/marksman-shooting-watch). We were able to shoot 5 AQTs over the weekend and one shooter stood out with scores of 46, 49, 49, 43, and 48. Congratulations to Yankee Peas of PA for earning his KD tab and shooting Distinguished three times.  Wear the watch proudly. HUZZAH! HUZZAH! HUZZAH!

Looks like a fantastic KD!  Beautiful range!  That watch is awesome!  Congrats Robert -- great scores!!  Congrats to all others who shot KD Rifleman - and for those who didn't - be persistent.

Awesome shoot all around! I was really glad I got to be a part of this one. I hope we can make this a regular event for the Northeast and draw in some more shooters and instructors from the wider region. Everyone should experience a 400yd KD, and Vermont is a beautiful place for a shoot! Thank you MattNH for pulling us all together and running a memorable event! Congrats to all of our shooters - fantastic marksmanship on display out there.

Thanks to the shooters and cadre for having a safe, fun and educational shoot.  Can't add much more to what MattNH and T. WOLF have already said.

I learned a good bit and using BSZ on the last AQT was really helpful in driving home that it WORKS.  It's easy to read it in the pamphlet or manual and understand the concept, but seeing is believing as they say.  Actually getting to use the features on my scope to range and hold over was quite satisfying as well.  Hope to be back at that range for another one.... wearing this sweet new watch.   ;D
