Title: Could I Bother Y'all-
Post by: Burnett on August 19, 2026, 03:10:17 AM
And I can hear the Iowa and some Minnesota folks saying "Like no one else I know". And quite possibly Mrs. Smith and Max Ord.   ::)

Not Appleseed related, but I am curious, could you go to Fast Speed Test (http://www.fast.com) and share your results?
It is an internet speed test site, apparently run by netflix.
I am getting 280 Mbps down and about 220 Mbps up; which I guess I am happy with. VERY seldom do videos buffer.
I live in a little town in north Iowa of about 800 people in town and just under 15k in the county and have fiber.

Thanks,
Greg

360 down
80 up

Your number are more than good enough. I pay extra to get a bit faster download speed. Else it would be closer to your stats. Both my wife and I can both stream (separately) our own vid at the same time without problem. Even with speeds closer to yours.

I know people getting much faster but I do good enough. I'm in the sticks myself.

That one says 470 down 86 up. The ookla test says 469 down and 100 up.

I got 810 down (guess Comcast made some upgrades), 32 up (sounds about right), 14ms unloaded latency, 75ms loaded latency.

1.1 gbps download, 890 mbps up.

I've got Xfinity - 270 down, 290 up according to your site.  254 down, 170 up according to a google speed test taken within a minute of each other.

My town's not big enough to be called a town anymore  ^:)^ .  Xfinity put in fiber less than a year ago.  I had Starlink before that.  Starlink was much slower, but could do everything I needed and even supported my kids playing games when they visited.

1.2 GB because I pay for Gigabit internet service. Your bandwidth is typically tied (limited) to your ISP subscription plan. If I paid for a 300mbps plan, I would expect my speed test to return 300mbps (or close to it). You can run speed tests (https://speed.measurementlab.net/) anywhere - they are not proprietary to Netflix. Expect slower results when running the tests over WiFi.

I can't help myself - I've just got to throw this into the mix being as I read too much geeky stuff:

Even with the speeds Burnet and I get living in the sticks we've got enough bandwidth to do whatever needs to be done. Faster internet will not make my life better and more complete.

So ask yourself why, just why, we need 5G and now the coming 6G? Which is not good for a human body by the way. Do the research. So why?

Here's a rabbit hole for you since most likely all your conspiracy theories have now come true: IoT and IoB. I'm sure a large percentage of those reading this may have heard of IoT - the Internet of Things. This is where all your devices are connected to the grid. Do you really need a refrigerator connected to the net? Or a TV that can see and hear what you're doing at home? You think I'm kidding most likely but I'm not.

Back in 2015, EPIC filed an FTC complaint alleging Samsung's SmartTVs were intercepting and recording private conversations via always-on voice recognition, and a 2017 class action made similar eavesdropping claims.

It gets much stranger - IoB - the Internet of Bodies. You ever hear of IEEE?

The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is a professional association for engineers and technologists, headquartered in the United States but with members and operations worldwide.

OK - now you know what the IEEE is - they write the standards for electronic devices. For instance the Wireless protocol:

802.3 — the base standard for ethernet (cabled)
IEEE 802.11 — Wi-Fi
IEEE 802.16 — WiMAX (broadband wireless access)

So IEEE is a working group that decides how things work.

Now what is the IoB - the Internet of Bodies?

The Internet of Bodies (IoB) is an extension of the Internet of Things domain, where wearable, ingestible, injectable, and implantable smart objects form a network in, on, and around the human body.

The IEEE standards for IoB include

IEEE 802.15.6-2012 — the main standard for Wireless Body Area Networks (WBAN)

The IoB can also refer to the Internet of Behaviour: IoB (Internet of Behavior) is an extension of the Internet of Things (IoT) that shifts focus from connecting devices to understanding and influencing human behavior.

So yes - these are things that are actively being worked on. If you think that's crazy look it up. The IEEE has working groups and papers describing all of this.

So of course they would need lots of bandwidth in order to make IoB work. And add to that AI, robotics, and welcome to SkyNet. There are actually a number of companies called SkyNet. lol.

Have a nice day.

Scuzzy, sir - I am actively encouraging my refrigerator and toaster oven to take over the world. I believe they could do a better job of running things.

Oh yeah? Why haven't I ever seen them at a shoot? I question their commitment to liberty if they haven't joined you for a single Appleseed event.

Toaster oven is Line Bossing on Saturday, Zorak - look sharp!  Alexa is doing the safety briefing.  Instructor meeting @ 7AM hosted by Google Gemini.  First Strike will be conducted through my Meta glasses.
