Does anyone know if BCA uses lined or unlined barrels?
I know, you're thinking, "Greg, instead of asking an internet forum, as Bear Creek".
I did. Apparently they don't know, and by that I mean they apparently don't know what a lined barrel is.
First I called and asked the young lady that answered. She responded with "a lined barrel?" and told me just a second. And transferred me to tech where I was on hold for about 3 minutes before getting cut off.
So I submitted a question to tech from their website. The reply I received was "The material is 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium". Yeah, I know that, it clearly says that on the product page. That doesn't tell me if it is lined.
Anyway...
I actually want an unlined barrel for this project.
Thanks to all.
No chrome lining, test it right away. My first 22LR upper shot an 8" pattern at 25m. The replacement solid 2 MOA in prone. 3 300BLK uppers between DeckApe and myself and they shoot well.
This is actually for a non-firing project so precision is not at all a concern.
But good to know that I wouldn't be able to hit a thing if it could. Or something like that.
As I understand it, if it is a Chrome Moly Vandium, then it is not lined. If the barrel is lined, it would not be any chrome alloy.
As I'm not expert, your mileage may vary.
If it doesn't say chrome lined or nitrided, the chances that it is is near zero. Chrome lined or nitrided is a selling point and they can charge more money for it.
Chrome moly(bdenum) is a normal part of 4150 steel. The vanadium is added to it to modify the grain and crystal structure to make it more durable and a few other things.
In the case of rifle barrels 4150 cmv steel can be bare, chrome lined, or nitrided.
Suppose it could be drilled out to .25 inches? Per discussions with others, if a barrel is chrome lined or nitrided, it'd be dern near impossible to drill out.
For this project, I wanna drill an AR barrel out to a quarter inch.
