It was a hot and muggy weekend with the threat of rain at times. We had a great group of students who came ready to learn. We started the day with hearing about history from Maddog1776 and Skald. We moved on and learned about safety and then shoot the first hits count target of the weekend.Out of 7 shooters, we had 3 hit all three shots in the 100, 3 hit all in the 200, 2 hit all in the 300, 1 hit all in the 400 and 2 hit the shingle with BlackKnight1300 clearing the target.
We learned the six steps of firing the shot with natural point of aim and the prone position and sling use before lunch. We worked on several drills in the process of learning this. We also worked on fitting the rifles to their shooters. All of the shooters showed improvement..
We heard the second strike of the match before learning talking targets and inches, minutes, clicks. We performed several drills including carding the sights. We then moved to learning seated and standing positions and working through an AQT. Shadow870 reconfirmed his Rifleman with a score of 222 with a bolt action rifle. We also heard the story of the third strike of the match.
We finished the day with a hits count target. Out of 7 shooters, we had 6 hit all three shots in the 100, 7 hit all in the 200, 2 hit all in the 300, 2 hit all in the 400 and 4 hit the shingle with Shadow870 clearing the target.
Sunday brought more heat, but the students persisted. We started with reviewing the positions, six steps of firing the shot with natural point of aim, and safety before shooting the hits count target. Out of 10 shooters, we had all 10 hit all three shots in the 100, 9 hit all in the 200, 5 hit all in the 300, 3 hit all in the 400 and 2 hit the shingle.
We moved on to AQTs, Drills, and several fun shoots for the rest of the day. Alex reconfirmed his rifleman with a 210 and BlackKnight1300 also reconfirmed with 222, and 221. We ended the day with the last hits count target. Out of 9 shooters, we had 8 hit all three shots in the 100, 6 hit all in the 200, 2 hit all in the 300, 2 hit all in the 400 and 3 hit the shingle. The heat and humidity was definitely getting to everyone.
Thank you to all of the students that came to the clinic. It was a pleasure to meet all of you and I hope to see you again at another Appleseed. Danny and Jeremy, you did very well for your first Appleseed. Continue to work on dry firing in the different positions. Andy, It was great to see you again , bringing another family member.
Thank you to Piqua Fish and Game for allowing us the use of the range.
