Title: Rimfire suppressors
Post by: Flintlock54 on March 16, 2026, 11:29:46 AM
I got my first one recently and I immunized noticed an increase in fouling in the action resulting in feeding issues after 100 rounds or so. Quick chamber cleaning and I'm good for a while.   The rifle is a very reliable Tipmann that previously ran 500+ rounds before needing attention, and even then a little oil would get me running. I'll likely not run this rifle suppressed at an event.

No complaints, I'm posting this as a heads up.

I have a Dead Air Mask that seems to run quite well; yes, things get dirtier, but not enough to cause problems.
Now that the $200 tax is gone, I'm thinking of 3D printing one.
Which one did you get?

Lone Star Scoundrel.  Issue likely is a combination of this particular rifle chartaistics + this can.

I shot my first 25m clinic with a 10/22 with my EA NYX Mod2 can on it.

The first day was okay. The second day, I had several jams, which I attribute to how dirty it got in the action from the back pressure from having the can on it. I should have cleaned it the night between days 1 and 2.

This past weekend, I used a different 10/22 and no can. Same mags as from the first 'seed, without even cleaning the mags in between, and my rifle ran flawlessly all weekend.

A can will definitely cause the action to get more dirty than no can. Especially if it's not a very low back pressure can (and I'm not sure how many 22LR cans are really LBP).

If I use my can at my next 'seed, I will at least clean my rifle after each day.

All .22 cans tend to foul after about 100 rounds.  I've had fewer problems with the old Sparrow cans vs. the Defcans I have.  Haven't suppressed the Tipmanns yet.  For all the other flaws the rifles have, the one Wildcat I bring with the sparrow has yet to be cleaned and there's at least 500 rounds through it.  Other than a couple squirts of Hoppe's gun medic at the start of each range session.

Same for my heavy barreled 10/22 again with a sparrow can.  The Defcans do seem to foul up faster.

A newer "flow through" style can might result in less action fouling than a traditional (monocore or baffle stack) can.

The Huxwrx Flow 22 TI claims decreased gas blow back.  One Reddit post I saw mentioned greatly decreased fouling on the writer's 10/22.

I've run a couple different cans on my Tippmann, but never more than 10-20 rounds.  I've not tried a Huxwrx can, but it sounds interesting.
