Title: Scope differences?
Post by: LDB415 on February 14, 2026, 04:00:46 PM
I'm looking at the rimfire scopes in the store. All 5 show the same photo. The 10/22 and the AR scope have identical descriptions. Those two and two others even have the same item number (CFR-2701i) But the AR scope is $50 more than the other 4. What am I not seeing?

They are all the same scope, but the mount hardware is different for each one. There are rails made specifically for each receiver's contours and mounting screw patterns. I'm not sure what the mounting system is on the AR, but I think it is probably designed to sit higher and use the flat top rail that comes with the rifle, and it might even be a cantilevered mount. I don't know on that one.

Oh, ok. Confusing because they use the same 1 photo for all 5 listings.

Yeah, it is a bit confusing. It's not a regular commercial online store, so it can be a bit funky. It looks like they have upgraded the scope since I got mine, and I expect that one will be perfect for your needs. The other nice thing is that you do get everything you need, including the rail and rings, so there is no guesswork on the compatibility of parts.

Yes, although on an AR they often (usually?) have a rail installed so I don't know if you add a second rail? In which case rather than costing more it should skip the rail and cost less than the others. (I'd think)

The packages for AR rifles include a cantilever scope mount that attaches to your flat-top rail. This mount allows you to move the scope far enough forward for proper eye relief on those type rifles.

The packages for rimfire include a rail that mounts to your rifle and rings to mount the scope to the rail.

If you click on the picture for each package, it opens the page that shows a full description of what is included in each.

I didn't go that far earlier. I see it now.

I'll be ordering the AR scope from the store in about 3 weeks when next month's check comes in. Until then I'll work with the flip-up sights included on the Tippmann. I may even run them for a while until I get tolerable with them and then add a scope after that.

I thought you were setting up a 10/22. Is it a Tippmann now? It's very hard to keep up with the different twists and turns.

Hahaha, yes, I'm bad about that. Always wanting the next thing. I actually am working on a 10/22 for Tech Sights TSR200s. But the more I read the more I also wanted the Tippmann. So I ordered it tonight. And I'll order the AR scope from the store for it once more money comes in. I've spent all Mr. Grumpy Checkbook will authorize for this month.
