Ok, it isn't poverty, but it is becoming obvious centerfire at 400-450 rounds per outing is going to be too large an expense once all other costs are included. So I'm looking at much shorter hikes to the targets with rimfire only. I've got a bit over $200 credit at Miwall I was going to use for .223 components. I need no other components so looking at ammo instead.
Current suspects are .22 Hornet S&B 45gr. SP $10.75/20 and best price available on AmmoSeek now. .30M1 carbine S&B 110gr. $23.50/50. And .22lr CCI 45gr. Quiet $4.25/50 best price other than scalper shipping charges sellers.
How is the CCI Quiet for 25M clinics? Is it any good for 200yd KD? I'd think fine for 25M but no clue so checking with those who know things. :) Thanks for input on any/all.
I have never shot CCI Quiet. But I did a bit of research.
It's velocity is published at 710 fps. It'd be fine for a 25m event, but trajectory is going really drop off past 100 yards. I use CCI standard in a 200 yard KD and that's enough velocity to work out to 200. Published velocity for CCI Standard is about 1070 fps, but out of my 18" sporter 10/22 I get 1055 fps.
One other possible problem: CCI Quiet may or may not cycle your 10/22 action. A 10/22 depends on the ammo having enough energy to cycle it from shot to shot. You'd have to buy some and hit the range to see how it works in your rifle.
You can usually find CCI Standard at Walmart for around $5-$6 a box (50 cartridges).

In my experience, CCI Quiet is not as accurate as other 22LR even from a bolt action rifle at 25m. I would not recommend for RKD - your DOPE will be radically different from any guidance an instructor can provide. Which is fine till you are off paper and don't know how to find the target. And as already mentioned it will not reliably cycle in a semi auto. CCI Quiet is more of a specialized close-in suppressor friendly pest management round.
For what is in-stock at Miwall, I would suggest 40gr CCI MiniMags (great for RKD and 25m) or if you want the good stuff for RKD you could get the Wolf Rifle Match Target for about 2x the price (but still much less than centerfire). Wolf Target doesn't fit our rack grade ammo mantra, but it is great ammo for most rifles.
There are two CCI Quiet 22 I see, slow and fast. Slow is 40gr at 710fps. Fast is 45gr at 835fps. I wonder if it's the slow that doesn't cycle the action and if the fast having 12.5% more mass and 17.6% higher velocity would cycle the action. If not, I'm sure it will cycle the action of my CZ457 for fun outings. I could try it in my Henry AR-7 and Springfield 2020 too just for grins.
Give it a go and let us know how it works out!

Turns out they only had 2 boxes of CCI Quiet but that's enough to test in the semis and shoot 2 or 3 cards in a forum monthly fun shoot. Filled the rest with S&B ammo in .22H and .30M1 carbine.
I'm not sure why you would want to choose the Quiet over Standard Velocity. Are you concerned about how loud it will be, or are you planning on using a suppressor? If not, then it seems like a higher velocity round that is still subsonic, like Standard Velocity, would be better. I use Standard Velocity, and they work great.
No SV in stock there and the other options were quite a bit more expensive so I went with that. I figured for 25M or 25yds locally it would be as good as any. I do have 3 bricks of SV here, 2 of TAC II, 2 mega-bricks of Federal black pack, 2 of Aguila Super Extra and 3 of CCI Mini-Mag plus one 325 count of Federal AutoMatch and a few odd boxes of assorted. And maybe a bit I don't remember having. So the Quiet is just another sample to try out.
What ammo did you use at your first Appleseed Rifle Clinic?
That's coming up in Apr. I plan on flipping a coin between CCI SV and TAC II.
I wouldn't overthink things too much then. I have routinely seen people shooting excellent scores with average equipment. Appleseed is more about skills than equipment. A stock rifle with a scope, USGI sling and decent quality ammo like CCI SV is more than enough for your first event.
I'm actually putting Tech-Sights TSR200 on this rifle. And leaning toward the CCI SV just because I have 3 bricks and only 2 of TAC II and this will even them out. I've also got two Federal Black Box 1100 round boxes of 36gr but I don't know if it would be any good other than range plinking.
Sounds like you are good to go. Don't sweat the little stuff. Rifle<Man.
I was able to squeak out a distinguished score at our rimfire KD this past weekend using Federal Champion 40gr this past weekend. I had it on my chrono and most shots were within 25fps or so. Rogers had it at a good price. Zero malfunctions. Your experience may vary but give I'd do it all over again.

Oh, I'd think that was nice weather although I don't know weather conditions out there. Too hot here for the next several months.

It was really nice. Probably the only reason I scored what I scored. First half of the day on Sunday was pretty calm and I was able to make it happen. Otherwise I stunk it up.

Copy that. It's not the plane, it's the pilot.
It's a little bit of both.
This is a little oversimplified, but. . .
1 MoA shooter, 4 MoA rifle= rifleman
2 MoA shooter, 2 MoA rifle= rifleman
4 MoA shooter, 1 MoA rifle= rifleman
4 MoA shooter, 4 MoA rifle= cook
Obviously the goal is to train everyone to be a 1 MoA shooter, but the gear definitely makes some difference.
*cough* Ruger 10/22 takedown *cough*

I was there. That was a great score — 48 out of 50! Congratulations on your distinguished score. I didn't qualify, but was only a few hits short, and I'm planning to go back in October for another shot at it. It was great meeting you and everyone else.

Thank you! I have been saying similar things on Rimfire Central. Obviously good skill can't be replaced! However if you have a garbage rifle, bad ammo and a bad sight setup, it's going to be ice skating uphill for any shooter.
